Lightning's J.J. Moser: Out 8-10 weeks
Moser (lower body) is set to miss the next 8-10 weeks, the Lightning announced Thursday.
That timetable suggests Moser likely won't be back before the 4 Nations Face-Off, which runs from Feb. 12-20. Tampa Bay's first game after the tournament will be against Seattle on Feb. 23. Moser has two goals and 10 points in 27 appearances in 2024-25. The Lightning will sometimes dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen, but they'll probably stick with 12 forwards and six blueliners for the duration of Moser's absence.

Lightning's J.J. Moser: Dealing with lower-body problem
Moser is considered week-to-week due to a lower-body injury, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports Tuesday.
Moser was already placed on injured reserve, so his recovery timeline shouldn't come as a surprise. The team did recall Declan Carlile from the minors to provide some defensive depth but could get back Victor Hedman (lower body) against the Jackets on Tuesday. For his part, Moser was poised to reach the 25-point mark for the third straight year and still could if he avoids missing too much time.

Lightning's J.J. Moser: Lands on IR
Moser (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports.
Moser won't be eligible to return until at least Dec. 22 against Florida. The 24-year-old blueliner had been having a strong year, logging two goals, 13 points and a plus-13 rating through 27 games. The Lightning brought up Declan Carlile from AHL Syracuse in a corresponding move.

Lightning's J.J. Moser: Hurt Thursday, likely to miss game
Moser (undisclosed) sustained an injury in Thursday's game versus the Flames, and head coach Jon Cooper labeled him "highly doubtful" to play Saturday against the Kraken, Benjamin Pierce of the Lightning's official site reports.
The Lightning are already missing Victor Hedman (lower body) and Erik Cernak (lower body), so they can ill afford to be without a third blueliner. Moser had an assist in Thursday's 8-3 win, giving him 10 points through 27 outings this season, and he's often filled a top-four role. More information on the state of the Tampa Bay blue line will likely be available prior to Saturday's contest.

Moser snapped a five-game point drought with a helper on Nick Paul's third-period tally. The 24-year-old Moser has not produced steady offense despite playing in a top-pairing role for most of the campaign. He's up to nine points, 25 shots on net, 34 blocked shots, 19 hits, 12 PIM and a plus-13 rating through 24 appearances. That puts him on a similar pace to the 26-point effort he mustered in 80 contests in 2023-24 with the Coyotes.

Lightning's J.J. Moser: Sets up game-winning goal
Moser registered an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Penguins.
Moser set up Brayden Point's second goal of the game, which came at 3:58 of overtime to complete the comeback win. Aside from a pair of three-point games in October, it's been radio silence on the scoresheet for Moser. He snapped a 10-game point drought with his helper Tuesday and now has two goals, five assists, 21 shots on net, 26 blocked shots, 13 hits and a plus-7 rating over 17 contests. He's filling a top-four role, but his slump has recently cost him power-play time, so he's more of a pure defender at this stage of the season.

Lightning's J.J. Moser: Another three-point game
Moser had a goal and two assists in an 8-5 victory over the Devils on Tuesday.
The goal was one of those couldn't-repeat-it-if-you-tried types. Moser scored a shorthanded goal from his own zone on a clearing attempt that deflected in off the boards after Jake Allen went to play the puck behind his net. Moser has six points (two goals, four assists) in six games this season, but his points have come in two contests. Points are points, though, so maybe he should simply buy a lotto ticket.

The 24-year-old broke in past the Vegas defenders and tapped a bouncing puck five-hole past Adin Hill. It was Moser's first three-point game of his career. He's skating on the top pairing with Victor Hedman and is primed to put up a potential 40-point campaign.

Moser plays a strong defensive game, and he's only 24. And in a strong system, he'll turn that solid game into some offense, too. Moser put up 31 points, including eight goals, in 82 games in 2022-23, and followed that up with 26 in 80 games last season. That's impressive considering it was in Arizona. A career season may be ahead for Moser.

Moser signed a two-year, $6.75 million contract with the Lightning on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Moser was recently dealt to Tampa Bay with Conor Geekie, a 2025 second-round pick and a 2024 seventh-round pick (Noah Steen) for Mikhail Sergachev. Moser had five goals, 21 assists, 99 hits and 112 blocked shots in 80 regular-season appearances for the Coyotes in 2023-24.
