  • Devils' Kurtis MacDermid: Playing time hard to come by

MacDermid has been scratched for eight of the Devils' last 10 games after sitting out Tuesday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs. The Devils look to be finding ways to avoid playing MacDermid -- amid a run of injuries to forwards, call-ups took over the vacated fourth-line spots in the lineup. MacDermid has no points, 20 hits and 17 PIM over 12 appearances this season. Since Nathan Bastian has returned from a jaw injury, it's even less likely MacDermid will play much, as the Devils don't need two enforcers in the lineup.

  • Devils' Kurtis MacDermid: Getting fourth-line TOI

MacDermid had one shot on net, three blocks and one hit over 6:24 of ice time in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Canadiens. MacDermid made a second consecutive start and toiled away on the fourth line. He's been in the active lineup after the Devils sustained injuries to Curtis Lazar (knee) and Nathan Bastian (jaw). Lazar is estimated to return sometime next week while Bastian's injury could sideline him until the end of the month. MacDermid is fond of throwing his body around and could rack up a significant amount of hits in any game in which he's active.

  • Devils' Kurtis MacDermid: Not seeing much playing time

MacDermid has played in just three of the Devils' 13 games so far. MacDermid is an out-and-out enforcer -- he's fought twice in his three games while adding six hits. The 30-year-old defenseman-turned-forward appears to be an option only when the Devils think they'll need extra toughness in the lineup or when a winger is injured. He had three points, 73 PIM and 83 hits over 45 regular-season outings between Colorado and New Jersey in 2023-24.

  • Devils' Kurtis MacDermid: Pens three-year contract

MacDermid agreed to terms on a three-year, $3.45 million contract with New Jersey on Friday. MacDermid will remain with the Devils after joining the club at the trade deadline this last season. In his 16 appearances for the club, the 30-year-old winger managed just one point to go with 29 hits, two blocks and 50 PIM. The decision to give MacDermid a three-year deal does seem a little surprising when you consider he averaged a meager 4:22 of ice time. Looking ahead to next season, MacDermid probably shouldn't be expected to offer much in the way of fantasy value given his limited minutes and lack of offensive upside.

  • Devils' Kurtis MacDermid: Good to play Wednesday

MacDermid (lower body) is expected to return Wednesday versus the Rangers, per Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site. MacDermid has two goals, three points, 53 PIM and 67 hits in 39 outings in 2023-24. His return to the lineup might result in Max Willman being a healthy scratch.

  • Devils' Kurtis MacDermid: Not ready to return

MacDermid (lower body) is not expected to play Tuesday against Pittsburgh, according to Sam Kasan of the Devils' official site. Despite being close to returning to the lineup, MacDermid will miss his fourth consecutive contest. He has picked up two goals, one assist, 53 PIM and 67 hits in 39 games this season between New Jersey and Colorado.

  • Devils' Kurtis MacDermid: Not playing Friday

MacDermid (lower body) is not in Friday's lineup against Buffalo, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. MacDermid will miss a third consecutive game. The team hasn't provided much information on his injury, but he'll get some extra time to heal up before Tuesday's contest against the Penguins. He has one assist in 10 games since being traded to New Jersey from Colorado.

  • Devils' Kurtis MacDermid: Dealing with injury

MacDermid was not available Sunday against the Islanders due to a lower-body injury, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. MacDermid was injured sometime during Saturday's tilt with Ottawa and will miss at least one game as a result. The 29-year-old has one assist in 10 games since joining the Devils.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Nets early goal

MacDermid scored a goal, levied four hits and added two PIM in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Ducks. MacDermid tallied just 1:40 into the game for his first goal since a game-winner versus the Wild on Nov. 24. The 29-year-old also took a third-period penalty that led to the Ducks' second goal. MacDermid has two goals on three shots while adding nine PIM and 11 hits over six contests this season. His 6:27 of ice time Tuesday was a season high -- there are virtually no fantasy formats in which a player in as limited a role as MacDermid can generate value.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Makes rare contribution

MacDermid scored a goal in Friday's 3-2 win over the Wild. This was just his fifth game of the season. MacDermid saw just 3:30 of ice time in a fourth-line role -- he's been under five minutes of ice time in three of his appearances. The 29-year-old defenseman-turned-winger has added two shots on net, seven hits, seven PIM and a plus-1 rating. Once Logan O'Connor (lower body) and Tomas Tatar (undisclosed) can return, MacDermid is likely headed back to the press box as a healthy scratch.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Active Wednesday

MacDermid had one shot and four hits over 5:54 of ice time in Wednesday's 4-1 win over St. Louis. MacDermid was active for the first time since Opening Night and skated on the fourth line. He was one of two changes to the lineup following two consecutive shutout losses - the other was the addition of Riley Tufte. Those two replaced Jonathan Drouin and Tomas Tatar, both of whom were healthy scratches. MacDermid was an odd choice given the team's recent lack of offense, but it looks like he was in the lineup to provide a physical component. That had been lacking in Colorado's previous game Saturday, when star defenseman Cale Makar was the subject of a questionable hit by Buffalo's Kyle Okposo.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Could play Wednesday

MacDermid could enter Wednesday's lineup against the Blues, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports. Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar appears to be shaking up the combinations after Colorado went scoreless in two consecutive games. MacDermid was part of Wednesday's morning skate and was off the ice early, while Jonathan Drouin and Tomas Tatar stuck around to continue working. That, according to Rawal, is a sign of who will be playing Wednesday, although Bednar didn't confirm the lineup. For a team that hasn't scored in six periods, MacDermid is an odd choice. Riley Tufte, who was called up from AHL Colorado on Tuesday, is expected to skate on the second line.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Focusing on forward

MacDermid has played exclusively at forward during the beginning of Colorado's training camp, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports. MacDermid has filled in at both forward and defense over his first two seasons with the Avalanche, but the plan is to use him at forward, where coach Jared Bednar feels the the team is thin. "If we want him in the lineup, I'd like to have him playing in the forward position," the coach said of MacDermid, adding that he'd like to evaluate other players for the blue line. Colorado added several forwards during the offseason, so MacDermid will have to fight for a roster spot.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Chips in with helper

MacDermid logged an assist, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Kings. MacDermid earned a helper against his old team, assisting on the first of Denis Malgin's two goals in the game. The 29-year-old MacDermid should have a clear path to playing time while both Cale Makar (lower body) and Josh Manson (lower body) are out. MacDermid has six points, 20 shots on net, 85 hits, 30 blocked shots and 53 PIM through 42 appearances this season.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Gets first goal of season

MacDermid scored the game-winning goal, levied three hits and blocked three shots in Monday's 5-0 win over the Blackhawks. MacDermid had played just once in the last 11 contests due to a concussion and a lower-body injury. He made his return impactful, scoring his first goal since March 25, 2022 on his first shift. The 28-year-old has five points, 18 shots on net, 79 hits, 27 blocked shots, 49 PIM and a minus-1 rating through 38 appearances this season -- his offense is too limited for him to make a positive impact in fantasy.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Ready to rock

MacDermid (lower body) will return to the lineup Monday against Chicago, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports. MacDermid, who has missed the past six games, has chipped in four assists, 76 hits and 49 PIM in 37 appearances this season. He will replace Cale Makar (lower body) in the lineup.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Still sidelined

MacDermid (lower body) won't play Saturday against Detroit. MacDermid will miss his sixth straight game. He has contributed four assists, 76 hits and 49 PIM in 37 appearances this season. Brad Hunt has been skating on the third defense pairing during MacDermid's absence.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Remains unavailable against Leafs

MacDermid (lower body) won't be ready to face Toronto on Wednesday, Aarif Deen of Mile High Sports reports. MacDermid has played in just one game over the Avs' last eight contests, logging a mere 11:56 of ice time in that lone appearance. Even once cleared to play, MacDermid is far from a lock to suit up on a regular basis and could find himself periodically serving as a healthy scratch behind deadline acquisition Jack Johnson. With a back-to-back on the schedule, it seems unlikely MacDermid will be cleared in time to face Ottawa on Wednesday either.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Won't play Saturday

MacDermid (lower body) will miss Saturday's game against Arizona, according to the NHL media site. MacDermid was also unavailable for Thursday's contest versus Los Angeles. He has four assists in 37 outings in 2022-23. When he's healthy, he'll likely draw into the lineup as a bottom-six forward.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Lower-body injury

MacDermid is day-to-day with a lower-body injury suffered Tuesday, Ryan Boulding of NHL.com reports. Coach Jared Bednar made the announcement Thursday. MacDermid returned to action Tuesday after missing four games with a concussion and is out of action again. MacDermid has four assists in 37 games this season, averaging 8:04 of ice time.
