Michael Del Zotto: Announces retirement
Del Zotto announced the end of his playing career Wednesday.
Del Zotto recorded 63 goals, 262 points, 1,672 hits and 1,038 blocks in 739 career NHL games with the Rangers, Nashville, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Anaheim, St. Louis, Columbus and Ottawa during his 13 NHL seasons. He reached the 30-point milestone on three occasions during his NHL career and set his personal best of 41 points in 2011-12. The 33-year-old had eight goals and 41 points in 65 AHL contests between San Diego and Charlotte last season.

Ducks' Michael Del Zotto: Traded twice Monday
Del Zotto was traded to the Ducks from the Red Wings on Monday in exchange for Danny O'Regan after Detroit had previously acquired Del Zotto from Florida in a swap for Givani Smith.
Del Zotto has been playing in the minors this season with AHL Charlotte after being waived at the start of the campaign. In 25 outings with the Checkers, the 32-year-old blueliner has tallied two goals and eight assists. Now that Del Zotto is with Anaheim, he could be brought up to the NHL to bolster the defensive depth, though he will initially report to AHL San Diego.

Del Zotto appeared at the AHL level last season for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign. The veteran blueliner will likely spend most of the 2022-23 season in the minors as well.

Del Zotto was bought out by the Senators with one year remaining on his two-year deal earlier in July. Even if the 32-year-old is able to secure a full-time spot on Florida's NHL roster, it's unlikely he'd offer more than mid-range fantasy value given his limited offensive upside.

Del Zotto was waived by Ottawa on Tuesday in order for the team to buy out his contract, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports.
Del Zotto has played for eight different clubs over the course of his 13-year NHL career and appears set to find a new home next year after Ottawa opted against keeping him for the final year of his contract. Even if the blueliner can secure a full-time gig as a regular starter next season, he will be hard-pressed to offer more than mid-range fantasy value given his limited offensive upside.

Del Zotto has been a more steady presence in the lineup in November, appearing in seven of the Senators' last nine games. The Ontario native has picked up five points, including two on the power play, in nine contests. He's added 23 hits, 11 blocked shots and a minus-9 rating -- he's always had a physical edge and decent scoring ability, but it's not likely to be enough to interest fantasy managers.

Appearing in just his third game of the year, Del Zotto pocketed his first two points with helpers on second-period goals by Drake Batherson and Chris Tierney. It was a nice performance by Del Zotto, but the 31-year-old's most impactful fantasy days are well in the rearview mirror.

Del Zotto appeared in 53 games with the Blue Jackets last year, notching 13 points and 125 hits while averaging 17:53 of ice time per game. Del Zotto scored a goal on his only shot and added two hits in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to Florida.
Del Zotto got the Blue Jackets on the board less than six minutes into the second period, jumping into a rush and beating Sergei Bobrovsky with a backhander to cut Florida's lead to 2-1. It was the second goal of the year for Del Zotto and his first since Feb. 11, halting a 10-game point drought in the process. The veteran defenseman has seven points and a solid plus-8 rating in 26 games this season.

Del Zotto registered both of his points during the game's final three minutes, erasing Columbus' 5-4 deficit while putting an end to his eight-game point drought in the process. Del Zotto jumped on a rebound off the crossbar and hammered a shot from the left faceoff dot to tie the game with 2:41 remaining, then set up Kevin Stenlund's game-winner 87 seconds later. He also tied for the team lead in shots and finished second in hits.

Del Zotto scored an official contract after joining the Blue Jackets on a PTO in December. The 30-year-old blueliner averaged 18:43 of ice time over 49 games with the Ducks last season, recording 15 goals, 101 hits and 55 blocked shots. Del Zotto will add veteran depth on the blue line and likely will play sparingly this season.
