New York Rangers defenseman Matt Hunwick earned some serious brownie points from his new fan base after he stopped a sure goal from rolling into the net Sunday against the San Jose Sharks.

Here's just how close the Sharks came to scoring.

The Rangers blue liner’s quick thinking and quick stick made sure to keep it a scoreless tie in the first period.

After a shot deflected past Henrik Lundqvist, the puck started wobbling precariously towards the goal line. The puck just kept teetering and at the absolute last possible second, Hunwick reached out with one hand and got his stick behind the puck to sweep it off the line.

That’s just a fantastic heads-up play from Hunwick and helped make sure it stayed 0-0 heading into the second period. He'll probably get some pats on the back in the dressing room and Lundqvist may want to mix in a nice steak dinner for his defenseman, too.
