Throwing things on the ice is a pretty big tradition in hockey in a lot different places for a lot of different reasons.
Fans in all cities have been throwing hats on the ice when a player scores three goals in a game for decades.
In Detroit, they throw an octopus because the eight tentacles used to represent the eight wins it required to win the Stanley Cup when the tradition started. In Nashville, they throw a giant catfish.
In Toronto and Edmonton, they throw their jerseys out of frustration and protest when the team stinks. And that doesn't include the random junk like shoes and waffles that have made their way onto the ice for unknown reasons.
This brings us to the University of New Hampshire, where the tradition among fans since the early 1970s is to throw a fish on the ice when the team scores its first goal of the game. On Friday night, the fan that had the task of throwing the fish seemed to bite off more than they could chew when they tried to lob this monster over the glass.
I mean, just look at the size of that thing.

At least they never gave up. That is the important thing. Persistence.
