Boston Bruins forward Chris Kelly’s opening shift in Tuesday night’s game against the Dallas Stars is one he’d probably like to forget. It wasn’t that he played poorly, but it appears that he suffered a fairly serious (and painful) leg injury after falling awkwardly.
UPDATE: The Boston Bruins announced that Kelly suffered a left femur fracture. He will have surgery Wednesday. Recovery timeline is six to eight months.
It’s difficult to tell exactly what happened, but Kelly and Colton Sceviour of the Stars were going for the same puck after Kelly poke-checked it away. There may have been some subtle contact between the two via Sceviour's, but whatever the case, Kelly lost his footing.
Kelly’s leg appeared to get caught up in the ice and bent rather awkwardly as he fell.
TD Garden fell to a hush as the Bruins veteran was immediately and visibly in a lot of pain. He laid on the ice for several minutes before eventually being helped off. Kelly had been on the ice a grand total of three seconds before the injury occurred.
The 34-year-old depth forward has two goals through 10 games this year.
