Evgeni Nabokov will spend one more year with New Yor Islanders, agreeing to a one-year contract worth a reported $3.25 million.
Nabokov has spent the past two seasons as New York's No. 1 goaltender after being claimed by the team on waivers during the 2010-11 season.
In 41 games last season he posted a .910 save percentage and recorded three shutouts as the team ended its lengthy playoff drought. It was in the playoffs, however, that Nabokov just so happened to play his worst hockey of the season during their six-game series loss to the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Islanders seemed to have an interest in free agent Ray Emery, but he appears destined to join the Philadelphia Flyers in free agency. The Islanders never appeared to be in the running for Ilyz Bryzgalov. There were rumors that the team considered a Rick DiPietro for Roberto Luongo swap, but that never came to be and the Islanders eventually used a compliance buyout on DiPietro.
