RangersWhen it comes to ridiculous publicity stunts, this one involving the New York Rangers and Delta Air Lines might be near the top of the list.

It's pretty much assumed that when the Rangers and Devils faceoff in Newark for Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Final series on Saturday afternoon there will be plenty of blue shirts in the crowd.

(The Devils have already attempted a preemptive strike to keep them out.)

Most of the Rangers fans that do make the trek will do it the sensible way -- hop in their car, or utilize the vast New York City/New Jersey public transportation system and take a 20-30 minute train ride.

The number of people that are willing to take up Delta Air Lines on its offer to fly Rangers fans to Newark for free remains to be seen.

From the Rangers website:
Delta Air Lines and the NY Rangers are going in style -– and you can join us –- on board the first FLIGHT to the NHL Playoffs flying from LaGuardia Marine Air Terminal Airport to Newark Liberty Airport.

This special event will give you and your guest:
  • Complimentary Seats on this special charter flight, departing at 10am from Delta LaGuardia’s Marine Air Terminal
  • Rangers alumni join the fun
  • Rangers Gifts and prizes
  • Free ground transportation from Newark Airport to the Prudential Center, and return to LaGuardia after the game
  • The chance for a Lucky Seat to win a free Road Trip for two (2) to a Rangers away game during the 12-13 season.
About the only intriguing part of this is the chance to win a free road trip to a Rangers away game next season, which would be a pretty cool experience.

But other than that? You're turning a 20-minute trip into a needless three hour hassle.

Good luck with that.
