Donald Trump is currently trying to make America great again while running for president. That’s what it says on the hat, at least. But one minor league hockey team would like to see Mr. Trump limit that focus a little bit and try to make the American Hockey League great again, instead.

The Syracuse Crunch, led by CFO Vance Lederman, want to see what Trump can do behind their bench. And frankly, I think we all would. Well, maybe not the referees.

Here’s Lederman’s Brooklyn-accent drenched challenge to Trump to quit fooling around with that presidential bid and come take a job with the team as a coach.

It would appear Lederman thinks Trump should aim lower a lot lower. Lederman also goes for the jugular, or the follicular, as he doesn't think Trump’s hair is real. This seems like an odd way to get someone to come work for you.

OK, so this is clearly part of the age-old tradition of a minor league sports team trying to grab onto whatever is really big in popular culture at the time as a way to draw attention. Whatever sells tickets, right?

That said, let's imagine for a second this happens (it won't). The Crunch happen to be the AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, meaning Bolts coach Jon Cooper would have some jurisdiction over Trump. Who wouldn’t enjoy sitting in on meetings with the brash business executive and the affable Lightning head coach? Could Coop tame the Trump? He is the most interesting man in hockey, after all.

Let’s hope Trump takes up the challenge, because his on-the-bench interviews would be great, his attempts to fire the officiating crew would get the crowd going and his post-game press conferences would make John Tortorella’s look like an episode of Barney and Friends.

Trump for Coach in 2016.
