Sergio Castillo: Retained on practice squad
Castillo cleared waivers and signed with the Jets' practice squad Wednesday.
Castillo was cut Tuesday following a disastrous Week 14 outing, where he misfired on three of four field-goal tries. Through six games with the Jets, he connected on eight of 13 field-goal attempts (67 percent), including both tries from beyond 50 yards. He'll remain with the Jets as an emergency kicker.

Sergio Castillo: Cut loose by Jets
The Jets waived Castillo on Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.
Castillo missed three of four field-goal attempts in Sunday's 40-3 loss to the Seahawks, predictably leading to his departure from the Jets. Sam Ficken (groin) is expected to be activated from IR and start in this week's game against the Rams, according to Al Iannazzone of Newsday. The Jets also claimed kicker Chase McLaughlin off waivers from the Jaguars in case Ficken suffers a setback.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Falls apart in blowout loss
Castillo connected on just one of four field-goal attempts in Sunday's 40-3 loss to Seattle.
Castillo connected from 45 yards out on New York's opening drive but then missed from 37, 41 and 43 on three consecutive drives. If Sam Ficken (groin) is ready to return against the Rams next week, he'll undoubtedly take back kicking duties from Castillo, who may not get another opportunity even if Ficken remains sidelined.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Misses PAT in Week 13
Castillo didn't attempt a field goal and made two of three PAT attempts in Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Raiders.
New York's offense came away with touchdowns when it got in close, limiting Castillo's impact. He missed a PAT, which forced New York to go for two after a subsequent touchdown to make up the lost point. Castillo will remain New York's kicker against Seattle in Week 14 with Sam Ficken (groin) still on IR.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Misses short kick in loss
Castillo made one of two field-goal attempts in Sunday's 20-3 loss to Miami.
Castillo opened the scoring with a 38-yard make, then clanked a 29-yard chip shot off the upright just before halftime. New York got more aggressive in trying to erase a double-digit halftime deficit and didn't provide another kicking opportunity for Castillo. He'll remain the starting kicker in Week 13 against the Raiders with Sam Ficken (groin) on IR.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Reclaims kicking job
Castillo is slated to step back in as the Jets' kicker Sunday against the Dolphins after New York placed Sam Ficken (groin) on injured reserve Tuesday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
While Ficken was out for Weeks 7 through 9 with the groin injury, Castillo filled in as the team's kicker and proved capable, converting on six of seven field-goal tries and four of four extra-point attempts. Ficken was cleared to return to action following the Jets' Week 10 bye, but he didn't look healthy in last week's loss to the Chargers, misfiring on two of his point-after attempts. The Jets will now shut Ficken down for at least three more games by placing him on IR, paving the way for Castillo to hold down the job through at least Week 14.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Inactive Sunday
Castillo (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
Castillo went 6-for-7 on field-goal attempts and made all four PATs over the past three games, but the return of Sam Ficken (groin) relegates him to the inactive list Week 11.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Accurate in loss
Castillo made both of his field-goal attempts and all three of his PAT tries in Monday's 30-27 loss to the Patriots.
Castillo was true from 35 and 50 yards. The kicking position has been one of the few positives for the Jets this season, as Sam Ficken (groin) missed just one field-goal attempt in six games and Castillo has missed only once in three games since being called upon to fill in.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Kicking again Week 9
Castillo is active for Monday night's matchup against the Patriots.
With typical No. 1 kicker Sam Ficken (groin) having been ruled out for the AFC East clash, Castillo steps in for his third consecutive start. The 30-year-old out of West Texas A&M has thus far made four of his five field goals for New York on the season, connecting on his lone try from 50-plus yards.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Another start expected
Castillo is expected to serve as the team's top kicker with Sam Ficken (groin) listed as doubtful for Monday's game, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Castillo is expected to make his third straight start in the absence of Ficken, who continues to be bothered by a nagging groin injury. Week 8 was a solid contest for the undrafted free agent as Castillo converted three of his four field-goal attempts, though he did see a kick blocked late in the first half.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Hits three of four attempts
Castillo connected on three of four field-goal attempts in Sunday's 35-9 loss to Kansas City.
Filling in for Sam Ficken (groin) for a second consecutive week, Castillo capped each of New York's first three drives with field goals, connecting from 39, 55 and 48 yards. His fourth field-goal attempt of the first half came from 47 yards out and was blocked. New York's sputtering offense went completely dormant after halftime, as the Jets went a third consecutive game without scoring a single point in the second half. If Ficken's unable to recover for the Week 9 clash with the Patriots, Castillo would retain the Jets' kicking duties.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Kicking again Week 8
Castillo will serve as New York's kicker Sunday against the Chiefs with Sam Ficken (groin) inactive for the contest, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports.
The Jets signed Castillo off their practice squad Saturday, one day after the team designated Ficken as doubtful heading into the weekend. While filling in for the injured Ficken in the Week 7 loss to the Bills, Castillo converted a 29-yard field-goal attempt and his lone extra-point try.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Joins Jets' active roster
Castillo was signed to the Jets' active roster Saturday.
This all but confirms Sam Ficken, who is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Chiefs due to a groin injury, will not play. Castillo converted his long field-goal and extra-point attempt in last week's loss to the Bills; however, the Jets offense has hardly been efficient enough to generate much fantasy kicker production.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Doesn't miss in debut
Castillo made his lone field-goal attempt from 29 yards out and converted a PAT in Sunday's 18-10 loss to Buffalo.
New York didn't ask much of Castillo in his NFL debut, but he was perfect in his limited opportunities. If Sam Ficken (groin) doesn't heal in time to face the Chiefs in Week 8, Castillo should continue to fill in.

Sergio Castillo: Back to practice squad
Castillo reverted to the Jets' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
The 29-year-old was elevated to the active roster for Sunday's game against the Bills and filled in for the injured Sam Ficken (groin), converting his lone field-goal and extra-point attempts. Castillo could rejoin the roster for Week 8 versus the Chiefs should Ficken be less than 100 percent.

Jets' Sergio Castillo: Making NFL debut Sunday
Castillo will serve as the Jets' kicker Sunday against the Bills with Sam Ficken (groin) inactive for the contest, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports.
After being added to the active roster from the practice squad Saturday, Castillo will be making his NFL debut while Ficken sits for the first time this season. A former CFL All-Star, Castillo converted 87 percent of his field-goal attempts while playing north of the border from 2015 through 2019.

Sergio Castillo: Slated to kick for Jets on Sunday
Castillo is expected to start at kicker Sunday against the Bills, Kristian Dyer of SI.com reports.
Castillo is currently on the Jets' practice squad, but with Sam Ficken (groin) considered doubtful, he'll either be elevated or promoted to the active roster before Sunday's contest. Castillo was a CFL All-Star back in 2019 after making 42 of 45 field goals (91.1 percent). This will be his NFL debut, and he could be in line for a handful of opportunities since the Bills have allowed 28 points per game. Of course, being attached to the Jets' offense won't do him any favors.

Sergio Castillo: Lands in New York
Castillo was signed to the Jets' practice squad Wednesday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Despite not suiting up in the NFL since 2014, Castillo has been a solid contributor in the CFL the past six seasons. A 2019 CFL All-Star, the 29-year-old will provide emergency depth behind starter Sam Ficken.
