When Vikings RB Adrian Peterson entered the game last Sunday -- his first live action since his knee injury last December -- it was expected he would have 10-15 carries in the game, but it turned out to be 17 carries and one reception. On Thursday, Peterson spoke about how the knee came through the game.

“It’s holding up,” Peterson said. “I didn’t experience [any] swelling at all. But I experienced some soreness, and I kind of expected that. That kind of lingered for about two days, but it’s gone now. I still feel it a little bit, but it’s nothing that would hold me back.”

How well he recovered will certainly play a factor into his workload for next Sunday’s game against the Colts -- and the coaches will continue to monitor him.

“We still have to be somewhat cautious,” said coach Leslie Frazier. "Now Adrian won’t want to hear that, but we still have to keep a rotation going between him and Toby [Gerhart]. I don’t think we can, at this point, say, ‘Adrian, look forward to carrying the ball 20-25 times.’ We’ll be somewhat cautious.”

It is hard not to view Peterson’s recovery as complete after seeing his performance against the Jaguars -- even Frazier said he didn’t expect 17 carries. But Peterson said his knee was 95 percent back to health earlier this week. So what is he looking for in that remaining 5 percent?

“Just being more explosive with my strength,” Peterson said. “It doesn’t sound like much from the outside looking in. But I know my game and I know where I want to be. And it’s going to be huge once I get 100 percent.”

Whether Peterson is 95 or 100 back, in his mind, he is ready to take on the entire running back workload, but he knows he doesn’t have total say.

“I don’t know [what the workload will be on Sunday],” Peterson said. “We’ll talk about that hopefully here soon, tomorrow or something like that, whether we’ll see something similar or see something with a little more workload or a little less. I don’t know. Whatever they call me to do.”
