Rams second-year cornerback E.J. Gaines is done for the year after undergoing surgery to repair a Lisfranc foot injury sustained during the first weekend in camp, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

He had been competing with Trumaine Johnson for a starting job.

Gaine was among the surprises of the 2014 season after being selected in the fourth round of the draft. He took over for an injured Johnson in the third preseason game and continued to play after his return. He finished the year with 63 tackles, two interceptions and 14 passes defensed.
