Vikings WR Percy Harvin injured his ankle on Nov. 4 in Seattle and was placed on season-ending IR on Dec. 5, and he has been rehabbing in Florida ever since. Little has been heard from Harvin since then, and speculation has arisen that his absence from the Winter Park facility is sign of a rift between the four-year wideout and the coaching staff. But Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said that Harvin's choice of where he rehabs is his decision.
“It’s purely up to him,” Frazier said. “If he wants to be around, he can be around. But the guys are working hard doing everything they can [to prepare for the playoffs], and I know he wants the team to do well. We have some other guys that are on IR who aren’t around as well. So it doesn’t concern us."
Frazier said he hasn’t talked with Harvin much recently but that head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman has been monitoring Harvin’s ankle rehab. Asked if Harvin would require surgery on the ankle, Frazier said he hasn’t been told that.
Frazier said that it's not unusual for players to rehab elsewhere. In each case, the team monitors the progress of the rehab.
“[Harvin is] supportive of his teammates,” Frazier said. “And any of guys that are on IR who don’t travel with us or don’t participate in what we’re doing, it’s nothing that upsets their teammates or gets them concerned. These guys are so focused on Green Bay and getting ready for that game, and that’s what’s most important.”
