And then there was one. Specifically, one Jets quarterback from last season's active roster remains -- and that would be Mark Sanchez -- after the team cut Greg McElroy Saturday.
McElroy, a former seventh-round pick out of Alabama, provided the Jets a brief spark last season, replacing Sanchez in a Week 13 win over the Cardinals, and started in a Week 16 loss to the Chargers.
But McElroy, who led all Jets quarterbacks in completion percentage last season (61.3), couldn't find a spot on the roster in 2013. The team is obligated to pay Sanchez $8.25 million, and they drafted Geno Smith in the second round of April's draft. Then there's Matt Simms, who was impressive during the preseason when he wasn't pretending to shoot up the place. The Jets also signed former Packers backup Graham Harrell earlier this week.
But even if McElroy's NFL career is over, he shouldn't be out of work long.
