Not long after Tom Brady made the decision to leave his team of 20 years and pack up from the New England Patriots to go to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his good friend and former tight end Rob Gronkowski decided to join him. With Gronk choosing to un-retire to reunite with the only quarterback he has said he will play for, the dynamic duo is back on.

The surprising move from the two players left sports fans wishing they could be a fly on the wall to see how it all went down. Did Brady call Gronk? Did Gronk call Brady? Had this been the plan all along?

Well, now thanks to an interview on CBS' The Late Late Show With James Corden, we have the answers of how this Super Bowl champion pair found themselves together again.

Gronk says after teasing him a bit about a return, Brady got really excited and then possibly overdramatized how it all went down. Take a look:

"All of a sudden he just screams on the phone, 'Rob I just want you to come back and play with me' and I was like 'Oh alright, alright I'll come back then Tom, no problem,' he was crying like 'Oh my god please come back' ... I was like 'wow just missed me that much' so I had to come back."

Gronkowski explained how their conversation first started starting by saying that Brady first went through his own process before the two talked seriously. With the theatrics and excitement that define Gronk, he told the rest of the story.

The 31-year-old TE made the call, "I called him I was like, 'Wooo Tampa Bay baby...  how's the weather down there?' He's like 'Oh it's great, it's fantastic,' and then I was like 'Oh man, you know Tom I've been thinking about football a little bit'"

Gronk explained, "I'm just teasing with him and I could just tell he's getting all this excitement."

Clearly he was more than just teasing him, as the two ended up back in the same team uniform.

The three-time champion also brought up to Brady that his mother lived down there and added, "it would be great to have a new opportunity."

Once Brady started with the excitement in his voice, possibly yelling his signature, "Let's go," Gronk was sold.

Now Gronk is focused on getting back to his football weight since he dropped 20 pounds after his retirement in 2019.

The new Bucs tight end is also set to star in the new CBS game show Game On, with tennis superstar Venus Williams and comedy star Keegan-Michael Key. The show premieres on May 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
