Giants vs. Ravens score, takeaways: New York rallies from late 10-point hole to upset Baltimore, go to 5-1

The Giants continue their hot start under Brian Daboll

The New York Giants continued their incredible run to start the season in Week 6, as they notched a comeback 24-20 victory over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Down 20-10 in the fourth quarter, the Giants scored 14 unanswered points to move ahead in crunch time. An interception set up the game-winning touchdown, and then rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux stripped Jackson on what could have been Baltimore's game-winning possession.

Daniel Jones completed 19 of 27 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, one that went to rookie wideout Wan'Dale Robinson, and the other to rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger. Saquon Barkley didn't dominate all game, but finished rushing for 83 yards and one touchdown. 

Jackson, on the other hand, completed 17 of 32 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Surprisingly, the offense was carried by running back Kenyan Drake, who rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. Mark Andrews had a huge game, catching seven passes for 106 yards and one touchdown.

If you weren't a believer in the New York Football Giants, it's about time you convert over to the faith. Brian Daboll has this team playing confident football, and this defense loves to stand up in big moments. Let's take a look at what went down in New Jersey on Sunday. 

Why the Giants won

If we are being honest, the Giants did not look like the better team on Sunday afternoon, and the offense didn't get to 100 yards of total offense until the third quarter. This is why the talking heads find it hard to give the Giants the credit they probably deserve, but this team continues to win by not beating themselves.

One reason why the Giants won on Sunday is because of their incredible fourth-quarter performance. New York forced both of Baltimore's two turnovers in the final four minutes of the game. The Giants scored 14 unanswered points, and then quickly took the ball away from Jackson as he tried to orchestrate a game-winning drive. This team doesn't shy way from the big moment, they crave it. The Giants simply wanted this game more than the Ravens. 

We also have to give credit to the Giants' rookies. Bellinger led the team with five catches for 38 yards and a touchdown, Robinson caught three passes for 37 yards and a touchdown and Thibodeaux made the game-winning forced fumble. That's exciting if you're a Giants fan.

Why the Ravens lost

The Ravens lost because of their fourth-quarter collapse. Two turnovers, 14 points allowed after they allowed just 10 in the first three quarters and then Jackson made some questionable decisions down the stretch. I mean, he gave the Giants their first interception of the entire season in the fourth quarter! 

This isn't the first time the Ravens have blown a lead this season. In fact, this is the third double-digit lead they've blown through six weeks. That's right, all three of their losses have come in games where they've led by double digits! 

Turning point

Down four points, the Ravens took over at their own 25-yard line with 1:43 remaining. They had all three timeouts, and a legitimate MVP candidate at quarterback. Ravens backers had to feel relatively confident, but two plays into the drive, Jackson was stripped by Thibodeaux.

I mean, what in the world was this?! On third-and-6, Jackson scooped up a bad snap, and while on the run, threw a pass towards the middle of the field. Julian Love cut it off, and set up the touchdown that would win the Giants the game.

What's next

The Ravens return home next week, and will host the Cleveland Browns. As for the Giants, they travel to Jacksonville for a date with Doug Pederson and the Jaguars.

Lamar Jackson is a legend. It's so fascinating to me that he loves to run those read options right up the middle. It's like a reverse read option, where they fake the sweep and then run up the middle with the QB instead. 25 yards there.

The Ravens have the worst pass defense in the league. I know Daniel Jones doesn't have an amazing wide receiving corps, but he has to find something in the passing game.

Wow the Ravens absolutely imploded on that drive. Looked like they were going to get points and then they miss a field goal! You don't see a miss from Justin Tucker very often. After getting a fresh set of downs at the Giants' 32-yard line, Baltimore went backwards six yards. Bend but don't break D from the Giants.

I don't blame the challenge, but you can't argue with the ruling. Either way, the takeaway from this is that the middle of the field appears open for the Ravens' passing attack. First down, 33 yards from the end zone.

Lamar Jackson destroyed New York on that read option. Saw a hole up the middle and he took it. That hasn't been there so far today, but Jackson clearly has been looking for it.
