You could probably make a pretty strong case that Brett Favre is one of the top-five players in Green Bay Packers history. You could probably even make a good case that Favre is one of the top-five quarterbacks in NFL history.
Former Packers center Frank Winters wants to take it one step further, though. He thinks Favre is one of the five best players ever. In NFL history. At any position.
"In my opinion, he was probably one of the top five players to ever play the game," Winters said, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "He was a special person, special individual."
Winters spent 15 years in the NFL, including 11 seasons playing with Favre. Winters was the man snapping the ball to Favre in 1995, 1996 and 1997 when Favre won three consecutive MVP awards.
Winters had a front-row seat to Favre's storied career, and he'd like nothing more than to see Favre be honored for what he accomplished on the field.
"Hopefully, they can get this thing worked out here in the upcoming months and get him back to Green Bay where he deserves to go into the Hall of Fame and to the [Pro Football] Hall of Fame," Winters said.
Packers CEO Mark Murphy sounds like he plans to make Winters' wish come true. Murphy said earlier this month that he'd like to retire Favre's number before the Ol' Gunslinger gets inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
