Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon told reporters Thursday he's still shaking off his rust from his 10-game suspension, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Gordon revealed that three of Brian Hoyer's five interceptions over the previous two games came from Gordon running the wrong routes.
In the Buffalo game, Hoyer was picked off because his pass intended for Gordon was underthrown. Gordon told reporters he "was supposed to make an in-cut," but instead ran a different route. As a result, Hoyer's poor performance led to coach Mike Pettine temporarily benching him in favor of Johnny Manziel.
Despite his route-running issues, Gordon has 15 catches for 195 yards and no touchdowns through his first two games back from suspension.
"I know in my mind I'm not where I want to be, because I'd like for it to be just second nature and for me to not have to think about it," Gordon said. "(Before) I'd hear half the play in the huddle and still know what to do. But it's not like that right now so I have to compensate and study a little more than everybody else. I'm playing catch-up. I've got a long way to go to be where I want to be."
