The torn medial meniscus Bulls point guard Derrick Rose suffered in his right knee is not believed to be as serious as the one he suffered last season, according to Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson on Wednesday.

The Bulls announced Tuesday night that Rose will undergo surgery after an MRI revealed a medial meniscus tear in his right knee, putting the remainder of his 2014-2015 campaign in jeopardy. It's the seventh time he's missed any playing time since his 2010-11 MVP campaign. The team is unsure when the injury occurred, and emphasized that there is no guarantee it happened in Rose's last game against Milwaukee on Monday. He required surgery to repair a torn medial meniscus in the same knee in Nov. 2013 and missed the remainder of the 2013-14 season while recovering.

According to Johnson, Rose's surgery will come "sooner rather than later" and the front office won't have a grasp of his recovery timetable until the procedure is done. In 2013, Rose had surgery two days after his meniscus tear. It remains to be seen if doctors will recommend Rose to have his meniscus repaired or completely removed during the procedure, though a "snip procedure" could be likely for the guard.

"First and foremost, it's concern for Derrick not only as a basketball player but as a person," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "It's not an easy thing because of how everybody feels about him.

"This one hopefully will be shorter.

"It's so unfair. He's been through so much," Thibodeau added.
