Los Angeles Clippers guard Lance Stephenson is obviously looking to forget about his disastrous 2014-15 season, which saw him average 8.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 25.8 minutes per game, shooting just 38 percent from the field and 17 percent from 3-point range. It is hard to overstate just how badly things went in his one year with the Charlotte Hornets.
"It just didn't work," Stephenson told Bleacher Report's Jared Zwerling. "I felt like me and Kemba [Walker] do the same type of stuff, and it just didn't click. Kemba is like a smaller me. He dominates the ball and he's a playmaker. And then my jump shot wasn't falling, so it was a tough season. I had toe and groin injuries. I'm telling you, this was worse than my rookie year when I didn't even play. I was really mentally down. I was trying everything to try to figure out what I can do to help this squad."
If your mind immediately went to Jamal Crawford when Stephenson mentioned Walker, you're not alone. Stephenson was acquired to play the sixth-man role for Los Angeles, and many assumed Crawford would have been traded by now. It is hard to imagine the two of them complementing each other very well. Crawford, judging by his recent tweets, doesn't seem to know where he stands with the organization:
"@seshkelvyn: @JCrossover are you still with the Clippers?"--i think

"@ThatGuy_Sammie: @JCrossover sooo you gonna stay a clipper or join the cavs? ??"-I'm not a f/a, wish but I'm not.. Soo u gotta ask Doc.....

Clippers president and head coach Doc Rivers still has some time to sort out that situation, but his major work for the offseason is done. That was acquiring Stephenson, Paul Pierce and, of course, keeping DeAndre Jordan, who almost signed with the Dallas Mavericks. Stephenson said he told Jordan that this year would be special -- he could be right.
"When I heard he was leaving, I was about to cry," Stephenson told Bleacher Report's Jared Zwerling. "I'm like, 'Come on, man.' I get on a great team and then we lose one of the best big men in the league. So when he came back, I texted him, like, 'We need you. We've got to get you back.'"
Stephenson also tweeted the same sentiment. The Clippers were extremely close to taking a step back, but now they have an opportunity to get better. Especially if Stephenson recaptures his pre-Hornets form.
