Inclement weather pushed the 2020 Geico 500 back 24 hours later, meaning NASCAR at Talladega will have a 3 p.m. ET start time on Monday instead of its originally-scheduled Sunday afternoon slot. The 2020 NASCAR at Talladega race also marks the first time a limited number of fans from the general public will be allowed to attend an event since the coronavirus halted the Cup Series in March. They'll be treated to a Monday matinee of 188 laps around the iconic 2.66-mile tri-oval at Talladega Superspeedway.
A trio of past Talladega winners -- Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano -- are on top of the 2020 Geico 500 odds at William Hill at 10-1. Only seven other drivers, including Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch at 12-1, are drawing 2020 NASCAR at Talladega odds shorter than 20-1. Before locking in any 2020 Geico 500 picks, be sure to see the 2020 NASCAR at Talladega predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven model at SportsLine.
Developed by daily Fantasy pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary NASCAR prediction model simulates every race 10,000 times, taking into account factors such as track history and recent results.
The model began the 2020 NASCAR season by picking Denny Hamlin to win his second consecutive Daytona 500 at 10-1. It got off to a hot start on its NASCAR picks following the coronavirus hiatus as well, calling seven of the top 10 drivers at The Real Heroes 400 and the Toyota 500 at Darlington. Using the model, McClure also recommended an outright play on winner Brad Keselowski at 13-1 as one of his best bets at Bristol. The model also called Kevin Harvick's win at Atlanta and nailed a whopping nine top-10 finishers in that race. McClure also used the model to lock in an outright bet on Hamlin winning at 10-1 at Miami. Anybody who has followed it has seen huge returns.
Now, the model simulated NASCAR at Talladega 2020 on Monday, June 22, 10,000 times. Head here to see the complete projected leaderboard.
Top 2020 Geico 500 predictions
For the 2020 Geico 500 on Monday, the model is high on Clint Bowyer, even though he's a massive 20-1 long shot in the latest Talladega NASCAR odds 2020. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Bowyer recorded one of his best performances of the year at the Daytona 500, finishing sixth at that superspeedway.
That's one of three top-10 performances he's recorded this year, and he's poised to add another one at a track he's historically raced well at. He was runner-up in the 2018 fall Talladega race and also has four other finishes of eighth place or better since 2014. Accidents took Bowyer out of Talladega in 2017 and 2018, but of the last four races he's finished, he's led at least 10 laps in two of them. He's consistently shown he has the skill and speed to contend at superspeedways, making him one of the 2020 NASCAR at Talladega bets you should be all over for Monday.
And a massive shocker: Denny Hamlin, a three-time Cup Series winner this year and one of the top Vegas favorites at 10-1, stumbles big-time and barely cracks the top five. There are far better values in a loaded NASCAR at Talladega starting grid.
Hamlin has six top-10 finishes at Talladega in his last 12 races, including a win in 2014. But he hasn't been consistent, failing to produce back-to-back top 10 performances at this track since 2010. His average finish position of of 17.71 ranks 14th among all active drivers, making him one of the 2020 Geico 500 favorites to avoid on Monday.
How to make 2020 Geico 500 picks
The model is also targeting three other drivers with NASCAR at Talladega odds of 14-1 or longer to make a serious run at the checkered flag. Anyone who backs these drivers could hit it big. You can only see them here.
