  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Getting rest Monday

Sogard isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for Monday's game against the Mets, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Sogard has gone 2-for-16 with seven strikeouts over his last five contests, and the Red Sox will now give him a chance to clear his head Monday. Enmanuel Valdez will pick up a start at the keystone as a result while batting eighth.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Getting third start in four games

Sogard will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Tigers. The switch-hitting Sogard has now started in three of the Red Sox's four games since being called up from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, with the switch-hitting infielder's lone absence from the lineup coming Saturday against All-Star southpaw Tarik Skubal. While David Hamilton (finger) is on the shelf, Sogard could have the opportunity to see near-everyday playing time in the middle infield, though Romy Gonzalez and Enmanuel Valdez loom as threats to poach starts from him.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Recalled to Boston

The Red Sox recalled Sogard from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday. With David Hamilton (finger) headed for the injured list, Sogard will return to the big leagues in order to replenish the Red Sox's infield depth. The 26-year-old slashed .227/.300/.250 with six RBI across 50 plate appearances during his first big-league stint earlier this month, though he's gone 8-for-24 with five RBI and seven runs scored in seven games since returning to Triple-A. He could see regular playing time at second base until Hamilton is able to return.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Sent to Worcester

The Red Sox optioned Sogard to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday. Sogard was promoted to the big club at the end of July and made his major-league debut Aug. 2 against the Rangers. Across 12 games with Boston this season, he batted .227 with nine runs scored, three steals and six RBI. His playing time with the big club was set to decline with Tyler O'Neill (leg) returning from the 10-day injured list, so Sogard will head back to Worcester to get regular playing time.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Back in lineup Friday

Sogard (calf) will start at second base and bat seventh in Friday's game in Baltimore. Sogard exited Wednesday's game versus the Rangers after fouling a ball off his calf and didn't play in the series opener against the Orioles on Thursday. However, he's feeling well enough to give it a go in this one.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Exits early Wednesday

Sogard was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rangers due to calf tightness, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Sogard fouled a ball off his leg during his at-bat in the eighth inning and felt his calf tighten up on him while in the field during the ninth frame. It's unclear if he'll be available for Thursday's series opener against Baltimore.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Getting sixth straight start

Sogard will start at third base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Astros, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Sogard will stick in the lineup for a sixth consecutive game, this time manning third base while Rafael Devers gets a rare rest day. The rookie's previous five starts came at second base and shortstop, and the Red Sox should continue to have a near-everyday role available for Sogard in the infield while he's swinging a hot bat and while Tyler O'Neill (lower leg) is on the shelf.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Steals first career base

Sogard went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Astros. Sogard was active on the basepaths all night and was especially a pest in the fourth inning, as he stole his first career base and then scored on an errant pickoff attempt. The 26-year-old has reached base in each of his first seven major-league games with two multi-hit efforts and seven runs scored.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Getting third straight start

Sogard will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Royals. Sogard will pick up his third consecutive start, this time facing off against a lefty (Cole Ragans) after his prior two starts came versus right-handed pitching. Tyler O'Neill missed both of those two matchups against righties and had been viewed as day-to-day until he was placed on the injured list Wednesday with an infection in his left lower leg. With O'Neill now in line for at least a week-long absence, Sogard could have an opportunity to see continued reps versus righties after opening his big-league career with five hits and two walks through his first 18 plate appearances. However, the Red Sox brought back the left-handed-hitting Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move Wednesday, and he could challenge Sogard for O'Neill's vacant spot in the lineup versus righties.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Two hits in win

Sogard started at second base and went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in Monday's 9-5 win over the Royals. Sogard, who started three of the four games since having his contract selected from Triple-A Worcester, has hit safely in all three contests. The rookie has gone 4-for-12 with two walks, two RBI and three runs scored thus far during his brief time in the majors. As Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) nears the end of his rehab assignment, Sogard's days with the Red Sox could come to end later in the week.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Making major-league debut Friday

Sogard is starting at second base and batting eighth against the Rangers on Friday. Sogard will make his big-league debut Friday while David Hamilton retreats to the dugout. Sogard was promoted from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, where he slashed .279/.382/.439 with 10 steals, 12 home runs and 54 RBI across 406 plate appearances. The 26-year-old will get his first taste of the majors against Rangers right-hander Jose Urena.

  • Red Sox's Nick Sogard: First major-league promotion

The Red Sox selected Sogard's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. Sogard is slated to start at second base against left-handed pitching and will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game. The 26-year-old has slashed .279/.382/.439 with 12 home runs and 10 steals in 89 games with Worcester this season. Sogard has experience at every position other than pitcher and catcher, so he could bounce around to different spots, if needed.
