  • Reds' Peyton Burdick: Scooped up by Cincinnati

The Reds claimed Burdick off waivers from the Orioles and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville. It's Burdick's fourth different organization since February, and that's counting just one of his two stints with Baltimore. • White Sox's Peyton Burdick: Designated for assignment

The White Sox designated Burdick for assignment Wednesday. Burdick will be squeezed off the White Sox's 40-man roster as a result of Chicago receiving four players from the Padres in exchange for Dylan Cease. Burdick owns a .200/.281/.368 slash line across 139 career MLB plate appearances and went just 1-for-14 over eight games during spring training. The White Sox's poor outfield depth leaves room for Burdick to return to the big-league club this season, but he would likely need to show significant improvement at the plate first.

Burdick will start in right field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Reds, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. • Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Recalled from Triple-A

Miami recalled Burdick from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. In 113 plate appearances with Jacksonville this season, Burdick hit .293 with a 1.017 OPS and 10 home runs while adding five stolen bases, but he also had a ghastly 38.9 percent strikeout rate. He struggled to a .207/.284/.380 slash line in his 32 games with the Marlins in 2022, but he'll get another chance to see if the success he's had in the minors can translate to the highest level.

  • Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Available Tuesday

Burdick (toe) is listed as an available reserve option Tuesday for the Marlins' Grapefruit League game against the Astros, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Burdick looks like he'll have a chance to make his first spring appearance since March 7 after being sidelined for the past two weeks with a right toe sprain. Before sustaining the injury, Burdick might have been on the outside looking in for a spot on the Marlins' Opening Day roster, so the missed time certainly didn't help his cause.

He's homered 23 times in 106 games while walking at a 16.5 percent clip, helping him to a .231/.376/.472 slash line.
