Atlanta optioned Petersen to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.
Petersen's stay with the big club lasted all of one day, with the right-hander not getting called upon in relief in Monday's 7-6 win over the Cardinals. He'll cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to right-hander Nathan Wiles, who was called up from Triple-A and is expected to work in bulk relief during Tuesday's game.

Atlanta recalled Petersen from Triple-A Gwinnet on Monday.
Petersen will take the spot on the 26-man roster vacated by Spencer Strider (hamstring), who was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Petersen has spent most of the season in Triple-A but did make a major-league appearance against the Rays on April 13, when he struck out one batter in two scoreless innings.

He'll take over the 26-man active roster spot that previously belonged to starter AJ Smith-Shawver, who was optioned to Gwinnett ahead of the activation of Spencer Strider (elbow) from the injured list next week. Petersen (1-0) earned the win over Colorado on Tuesday, allowing one run on one hit and one walk while striking out two batters over two innings.
After being called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, Petersen saw his first big-league action Tuesday at Coors Field. He entered in the seventh inning with Los Angeles down four runs and allowed the Rockies to increase their lead on a walk, single and sacrifice fly. Petersen returned for the eighth and retired the side in order, then found himself in the win column after the Dodgers pulled ahead with a seven-run ninth frame. Petersen will likely be used mainly in low-leverage spots during his time with the big club.

Dodgers' Michael Petersen: Gets non-roster invite from Dodgers
Peterson signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Peterson, 29, spent last season in the Rockies organization split between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque, holding a 3.46 ERA and 49:25 K:BB over 41.2 relief innings. The tall right-hander has never appeared in the big leagues.
