Yankees' Cade Smith: Returns from IL
Smith (shoulder) struck out three and gave up no hits and three walks over 2.2 scoreless innings in his season debut for High-A Hudson Valley on Thursday after being reinstated from the 7-day injured list.
Smith was shelved coming out of spring training while he contended with a shoulder injury, but he was cleared to join Hudson Valley after completing a three-start rehab assignment between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Single-A Tampa. The Yankees are likely to monitor the 23-year-old right-hander's workload carefully for the rest of the season while he works his way back into form following the lengthy absence.

Yankees' Cade Smith: Shelved with shoulder issue
Smith will open the season on the injured list at High-A Hudson Valley with a shoulder injury, Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline reports.
Shoulder issues ended Smith's 2024 season three weeks early and the same type of injury will delay his 2025 debut. Smith, who turns 23 in April, logged a 3.65 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 118:43 K:BB in 93.2 innings in 2024, primarily at Single-A.

Yankees' Cade Smith: Done for season
High-A Hudson Valley placed Smith (undisclosed) on the 60-day injured list Monday, Conor Foley of YES Network reports.
It's unclear what the nature of Smith's injury is. He was promoted from Single-A Tampa to Hudson Valley on Aug. 6 and made two starts for the Renegades before landing on the shelf. Smith logged a 2.61 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 37 strikeouts in 31 innings over his final seven appearances of the year across the two levels. The 22-year-old righty was ascending prior to the injury, but if it ends up being a serious arm injury, we may not see him again until 2026, given when this occurred in the calendar.
