Rockies' Kyle Karros: Earns roster spot
Karros will begin the 2026 season on the big-league roster, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Karros was the favorite to claim the third-base job coming into spring training, and his performance during the exhibition season aligned with those expectations. He collected 15 hits -- four of which went for extra bases -- and struck out only nine times in 41 plate appearances. Karros will presumably draw the majority of starts at third base to begin the season, though his role hasn't been defined.

Rockies' Kyle Karros: Favorite at third base
Karros remains the favorite to make the Rockies' Opening Day roster as the starting third baseman, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Karros ascended through the minor-league ranks quickly following his selection by the Rockies in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB draft. He made his major-league debut in early August and spent the rest of the 2025 season with Colorado, finishing with a .226/.308/.277 slash line with one home run and nine RBI over 156 plate appearances. Karros hasn't displayed much power at the plate, but his defensive prowess should keep him in the lineup so long as he can make good contact and reduce his chase rate.

Rockies' Kyle Karros: Adds strength over offseason
Karros entered camp weighing 230 pounds, 20 pounds heavier than he was at the close of the 2025 season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Karros made his big-league debut at the close of the 2025 season and managed only a .585 OPS with a 26.3 percent strikeout rate across 156 plate appearances. Manager Warren Schaeffer dismissed that sample due to Karros being down about 10 pounds from his typical playing weight, forcing him to play at less than full strength. Karros is among the top candidates to claim the starting third-base job in Colorado to begin the season, and he's collected three hits in his first five plate appearances in Cactus League action.

Karros recorded an RBI in his second consecutive game after knocking in a run with a single in the second inning. He remains the Rockies' primary third baseman, starting 16 of 20 games in September. However, Karros has hit only .222 with three RBI and six runs scored in that span.

Rockies' Kyle Karros: Dealing with back tightness
Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer said that Karros is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers due to back tightness, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
The injury doesn't appear to be severe and Karros should be considered day-to-day for the time being. He'll be available off the bench as an emergency option while Orlando Arcia starts at third base and bats eighth. Karros has gone 10-for-37 (.270 average) with one home run, five RBI and 10 runs in 12 games since being called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Aug. 8.

Rockies' Kyle Karros: Receiving first day off
Karros is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
For the first time since he was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Aug. 8, Karros will receive a day off. The 23-year-old has kicked off his big-league career in impressive fashion, slashing .290/.389/.387 with three doubles, a 5:6 BB:K, three RBI and seven runs in nine games. Orlando Arcia will cover third base Sunday in his stead.

Rockies' Kyle Karros: Scores three runs
Karros went 2-for-3 a double, a walk and three runs scored Wednesday against the Cardinals.
Karros made his sixth straight start since being called up Friday and has at least one hit in five of those contests, including two multi-hit performances. He contributed to two key rallies for Rockies on Wednesday, doubling to lead off the seventh inning and walking to lead off the final frame while coming around to score on both occasions. Karros doesn't have one standout tool, but he should be a source of decent counting stats and batting average.
