  • Nationals' Andrew Young: Sent to MiLB camp

The Nationals reassigned Young to minor-league camp Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Young was among the 10 players sent to minor-league camp during Washington's first wave of spring cuts. The Nationals selected Young in the minor-league Rule 5 draft earlier this offseason after Arizona outrighted him off its 40-man roster in late November. He saw action in 58 games for the Diamondbacks in 2021, hitting .209 with six home runs and 15 RBI across 104 plate appearances.

  • Nationals' Andrew Young: Chosen by Nationals

Young was selected by the Nationals in the first round of the 2021 Rule 5 draft Wednesday, JJ Cooper of Baseball America reports.

Young spent parts of the last two seasons in the majors with the Diamondbacks, and he slashed .209/.298/.484 with six home runs, 15 RBI and 13 runs across 58 big-league appearances last year. He'll likely be in the mix for a major-league roster spot with his new club heading into the 2022 campaign.

Young was outrighted to Double-A Amarillo on Tuesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Optioned to minors

Young was optioned to Triple-A Reno after Friday's game against the Astros.

Young has shuttled between the majors and Triple-A throughout the season. Though he's managed a .484 slugging percentage across 104 plate appearances, he's also struck out at a 43 percent clip while with Arizona. Luis Frias was recalled to make his major-league debut in the corresponding move.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Settles back into bench role

Young remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Young closed the weekend with three consecutive starts at second base, with the 27-year-old going 3-for-10 with three doubles, a walk, two runs and an RBI over that stretch. Despite the solid showing over the weekend, Young still looks like he'll be in store for little more than a part-time role in September. He'll be on the bench for the second straight day Wednesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Called up, starting Sunday

The Diamondbacks recalled Young from Triple-A Reno on Sunday. He'll start at second base and bat sixth in Arizona's series finale in Philadelphia.

Arizona released No. 3 catcher Bryan Holaday to open up a spot on the 26-man active roster for Young. Though he'll be included in the lineup in his return to Arizona, the righty-hitting Young isn't expected to fill anything more than a short-side platoon role in the infield over the final month of the season.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Sent to minors

Young was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Young hasn't filled a regular role for the Diamondbacks this season, though he does own a strong .924 OPS in a small sample of 67 plate appearances. A 49.3 percent strikeout rate has something to do with it. Ketel Marte (hamstring) was activated off the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Tallies sixth homer

Young hit a two-run pinch-hit home run Saturday against the Cubs.

Young entered the game as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and delivered a home run to give the Diamondbacks insurance on their lead. He now has six homers on the season but has served almost exclusively as a pinch hitter during his time in the majors. In 58 plate appearances, Young has maintained a .224/.345/.653 line but is also striking out at 46.6 percent rate.

The Diamondbacks optioned Young to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

The infielder went 2-for-7 with the big-league club after being called up June 29. Given his decent numbers, Young may earn additional opportunities with the Diamondbacks later this season.

He figures to serve in a utility role once again this time around. Pitcher Alex Young was optioned to Reno in a corresponding roster move.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Sent to Triple-A

Young was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Saturday.

The 27-year-old is hitless in 16 at-bats over his past 10 appearances, and he'll head to Triple-A with Christian Walker (oblique) returning from the injured list. Young has a .206/.357/.588 slash line with four home runs in 42 plate appearances this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Double, RBI in loss

Young started at second base and went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Friday's 17-2 loss to the Nationals.

Young, who has primarily been used as a pinch hitter, made his second consecutive start at second base. There should be a rotation of players at second after the Diamondbacks placed Asdrubal Cabrera (hamstring) on the injured list Friday. Young and Josh Rojas will be the top contenders for at-bats at the keystone.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Belts fourth homer

Young hit a solo home run in his only plate appearance during Wednesday's loss to the Marlins.

Young was recalled from the minors earlier in the day and immediately made an impact upon his return to the big club, crushing a 442-foot solo shot to left field in the fifth inning. The 27-year-old has four hits on the campaign -- all of which have left the yard. He hit 29 homers across two minor-league levels in 2019, so he certainly has pop in his bat, but it remains to be seen if he'll be given enough playing time with Arizona to be worthy of fantasy consideration.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Recalled by Diamondbacks

Young was recalled Wednesday from Triple-A Reno.

The second baseman impressed during his first stint on the big-league roster in 2021, albeit in a small sample size, as he hit three homers in 12 at-bats. Young fills the roster spot of Christian Walker (oblique), who was placed on the injured list Wednesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Optioned to Triple-A

Young was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

Young owns a remarkable 1.904 OPS, though that came in just 14 plate appearances. He went 3-for-12, with all three of his hits clearing the fence, but the Diamondbacks no longer need him to fill a utility role with Tim Locastro returning from a dislocated finger.

Young went 1-for-2 with a grand slam in the 11-6 win Thursday against the Nationals.

Young was called up to replace Christian Walker (oblique) on the active roster. The 26-year-old took full advantage of his start by hitting a grand slam in the second inning off Patrick Corbin. He'll operate as a utility player, getting spot starts when others need a routine day off.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Young: Recalled from alternate site

Young was recalled from the Diamondbacks' alternate training site Monday.

With Christian Walker (oblique) landing on the injured list, Young will return for his second stint with the big-league team this season. The 26-year-old Young can play pretty much everywhere and he's more than held his own at the upper levels of the minors, but to date the Diamondbacks haven't seemed interested in giving him a look in anything more than a utility role.
