  • Yankees' Chase Hampton: Goes on Double-A IL

Double-A Somerset placed Hampton on the 7-day injured list Tuesday with a groin injury, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Hampton has missed a large chunk of this season with shoulder and elbow issues, but thankfully, his new injury isn't arm-related. It's unclear how long the right-hander might be sidelined. Hampton has been limited to just 18.2 innings this season, tossing 5.2 scoreless frames during his time with Somerset.

  • Yankees' Chase Hampton: Returns from Double-A IL

Double-A Somerset reinstated Hampton (elbow) from its 60-day injured list Tuesday. Hampton was cleared to rejoin the Double-A club after giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and six walks while striking out 12 across 13 innings over his five rehab outings between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Single-A Tampa. The right-hander had been on the shelf all season while battling shoulder discomfort as well as a right elbow strain.

  • Yankees' Chase Hampton: Begins rehab assignment in FCL

Hampton (shoulder) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Monday as he continues to work his way back from a UCL sprain in his right elbow, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Back in the spring, Brendan Samson of MLB.com relayed that Hampton's placement on Double-A Somerset's injured list to begin the season was the result of shoulder discomfort. While it's possible that Hampton had been bothered by his shoulder at the time, Phillips' report suggests that it's the right-hander's elbow that had kept him from pitching in games until July. Hampton was unsurprisingly rusty Monday in his first outing in the FCL, striking out two batters but giving up one earned run on one hit and two walks over 1.1 innings. He'll likely make additional starts in the FCL or with Single-A Tampa before eventually slotting back into the Double-A rotation at some point after the All-Star break.

  • Yankees' Chase Hampton: Shifts to 60-day IL

Double-A Somerset transferred Hampton (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Saturday. Hampton has yet to make his 2024 debut after he contended with right shoulder discomfort coming out of spring training. According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Hampton has resumed a throwing program, but the 22-year-old right-hander still looks to be at least a month away from joining the Somerset rotation.

  • Yankees' Chase Hampton: Moved to minor-league camp

The Yankees reassigned Hampton to minor-league camp Sunday. Hampton is one of the organization's top pitching prospects, and he got into one Grapefruit League contest this spring, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two batters in one scoreless inning. He has yet to reach the Triple-A level in the minors, however, so he was never expected to compete for a spot on the big-league Opening Day roster. If Hampton continues to show success on the farm, he could get a look in the majors at some point in 2024.

  • Yankees' Chase Hampton: Invited to spring training

The Yankees have issued Hampton in invitation to participate in major-league spring training, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Hampton was a sixth-round selection by New York in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft and split time between High-A and Double-A last season, totaling a 3.63 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and an impressive 145:37 K:BB over 106.2 innings across 20 starts. The right-hander logged 59.2 of those frames with Double-A Somerset, so it's feasible that he could open the 2024 campaign at the Triple-A level. If he continues to thrive in the minors, Hampton could get his first look in the big leagues as soon as the upcoming season.
