  • TJ Hopkins: Cut by Detroit

The Tigers released Hopkins on Friday. Hopkins reached the big leagues for the first time in 2023 and appeared in 25 games with the Reds, but after landing with the Tigers last offseason, he played exclusively at the Double-A level in 2024. He turned in an ugly .190/.326/.329 slash line over 95 plate appearances with Double-A Erie before being shut down for the season last May due to a shoulder injury. It's not clear if Hopkins is healthy or not heading into the 2025 season, but the Tigers will let him explore his options in free agency.

  • Tigers' TJ Hopkins: Placed on full-season IL

Hopkins was placed on the full-season injured list by Double-A Erie on Friday after undergoing a right shoulder labrum repair procedure this week, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Hopkins slashed .190/.326/.329 with four RBI and two home runs for the Seawolves before getting injured in early May. The 27-year-old outfielder, who made his big-league debut in 2023 with the Reds, will look to get healthy in time for spring training in 2025.

  • Tigers' TJ Hopkins: Sent to Triple-A

Hopkins cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Hopkins was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Thursday but will stick in the organization after he passed through waivers unclaimed. The 27-year-old spent most of last season at the Triple-A level with the Reds and had a .925 OPS in 94 contests.

  • Tigers' TJ Hopkins: Scooped up by Detroit

The Tigers claimed Hopkins off waivers from the Giants on Tuesday. Hopkins has now bounced around from the Reds to the Giants and now to the Tigers this offseason. He struggled during his cup of coffee in Cincinnati, but the 27-year-old slashed .296/.392/.496 at Triple-A Louisville over 119 games across the 2022 and 2023 minor-league seasons. Hopkins will compete for a reserve outfielder job but is likely headed to Triple-A Toledo to begin the season.

  • Giants' TJ Hopkins: Designated for assignment

Hopkins was designated for assignment by the Giants on Tuesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Otto Lopez. Hopkins was acquired from the Reds earlier this offseason and now could be on the move again.

  • Reds' TJ Hopkins: Fills in for Fairchild

Hopkins entered Sunday's game after Stuart Fairchild left with a concussion and went 0-for-3 in a 10-3 loss to the Blue Jays. Fairchild started in right field and crashed into the wall during the second inning while attempting to make a catch. Hopkins hasn't played much since his callup Aug. 5, garnering just one start and four plate appearances. Will Benson was out of the lineup Sunday against a lefty and should return Monday against Angels righty Lucas Giolito. Lefty Reid Detmers is scheduled to face the Reds on Tuesday, which could be a spot for Hopkins or Henry Ramos.
