Red Sox's Caleb Durbin: Named starter at 3B
Durbin was informed by the Red Sox on Wednesday that he will begin the season as the club's starting third baseman, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Manager Alex Cora indicated earlier in camp that Durbin would likely open the year as the starter at the hot corner, and he's now officially won the job. The 26-year-old spent most of his time there as a rookie last season in Milwaukee, where he had a .256/.334/.387 slash line with 11 homers and 18 steals in 136 regular-season games.

Red Sox's Caleb Durbin: Expected to play third base
Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated Tuesday that Durbin will be the team's primary third baseman this season, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports.
Durbin has played some second base this spring, as well, but signs had been pointing to him sticking at the hot corner where he played last season with the Brewers. He could wind up accruing enough time at second base to gain eligibility there in-season, but Durbin will enter the year eligible only at third base on most fantasy platforms. The Red Sox will likely go with either Marcelo Mayer or Isiah Kiner-Falefa at second base to open the season.

Red Sox's Caleb Durbin: Debuts at third base
Durbin started at third base and went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's spring game against the Blue Jays.
Durbin made his Grapefruit League debut and was stationed at third base, where he and Marcelo Mayer are expected to see playing time this coming season. Each player will also get reps at second base. Mayer has not yet appeared in a spring game.

Red Sox's Caleb Durbin: Looks healthy for camp
Durbin (elbow) was spotted taking part in infield drills at third base during Monday's full-squad workout, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Durbin underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his right elbow in late October, but he doesn't look like he'll be operating with any restrictions in his first spring training with the Red Sox, who acquired him last week in a six-player deal with the Brewers. It should be noted that Marcelo Mayer took part in drills at second base. Where Durbin and Mayer, both of whom have experience at second and third base, eventually land is one story in Boston's spring training. During his rookie campaign with Milwaukee, Durbin served as the team's primary third baseman and was a threat on the basepaths (18 steals in 24 attempts) and made contact at an elite clip (9.9 percent strikeout rate), but his 26.9 percent hard-hit rate ranked in the fourth percentile of all batted and limited his slugging production. With that in mind, Durbin's bat may profile better at second base rather than third base, but the Red Sox will likely give him a look at both positions throughout the spring.

Red Sox's Caleb Durbin: Shipped to Boston
The Red Sox acquired Durbin (elbow), Andruw Monasterio, Anthony Seigler and a Comp B pick from the Brewers on Monday in exchange for Kyle Harrison, David Hamilton and Shane Drohan, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Durbin had a solid rookie season in Milwaukee, slashing .256/.334/.387 with 11 home runs and 18 stolen bases over 136 regular-season contests. Slated to turn 26 later this month, Durbin mostly played third base for the Brewers and that could be where he slots in for the Red Sox, but he's also an option to handle second base. Durbin underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery in October but should be ready to go for the beginning of spring training.

Brewers' Caleb Durbin: Scheduled for surgery
Durbin will undergo arthroscopic elbow surgery Oct. 30, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Durbin's elbow began bothering him toward the end of the season, so he will now go under the knife to address the issue. The 25-year-old infielder is expected to be fully recovered by the time spring training begins in February.
