  • Rockies' Tyler Freeman: Lands on 10-day IL

The Rockies placed Freeman on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a left oblique strain. Freeman was initially included in the Rockies' starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, but he was scratched after tweaking his oblique in the batting cage. Further tests revealed a strain, and the injury is severe enough to warrant a stint on the injured list. To shore up their infield depth, the Rockies recalled Adael Amador from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Tyler Freeman: Scratched from Saturday's lineup

Freeman was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Padres due to an oblique injury, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Freeman was initially slated to start in center field, but he tweaked his oblique in the batting cage and will not be in the lineup for Saturday's contest. Mickey Moniak will start in center field and bat seventh against Padres southpaw Kyle Hart.

  • Rockies' Tyler Freeman: In Thursday's lineup

Freeman (wrist) will start at second base and bat ninth in Thursday's game versus the Phillies. Freeman hasn't played since being hit on the left wrist by a pitch in Sunday's game versus the Rays, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in Thursday's series finale. It's the second start this season for the former Guardian.

  • Rockies' Tyler Freeman: Nursing sore wrist

Freeman is tending to a sore left wrist after being hit by a pitch in the sixth inning of Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Rays, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Making his first start of the season Sunday, Freeman played second base and grounded out in his first at-bat in the top of the third inning before taking his base on the hit-by-pitch in the sixth. Freeman came around to score a game-tying run and then went back out in the field for the bottom of the sixth, but he was lifted for a pinch hitter the next time his turn in the batting order came up in the top of the seventh. Fortunately for Freeman, X-rays on his wrist came back negative, but he's considered day-to-day while he waits for the soreness and swelling to subside. Kyle Farmer will start at second base in Monday's series opener in Philadelphia.

  • Rockies' Tyler Freeman: Headed to Colorado

Freeman was traded from the Guardians to the Rockies on Saturday in exchange for Nolan Jones, SI.com reports. Freeman was in competition for playing time at second base with Cleveland this spring and maintained an impressive 1.080 OPS across 39 at-bats -- including eight extra-base hits. He's struggled to turn his contact-heavy approach at the plate into meaningful big-league production in partial playing time across the last three campaigns, but playing at Coors Field could help him turn a corner. Freeman should get regular run at second base to begin the 2025 season with Thairo Estrada (wrist) sidelined, and he could also fill a small-side platoon in left field.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Starts at second base

Freeman started at second base and went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a triple and an RBI in Friday's spring game against the Giants. The Guardians auditioned several players for second base during Cactus League play, and it's still not clear who will be the primary starter. Two players in the competition, Juan Brito and Angel Martinez, were optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Friday, leaving Freeman (four starts), Gabriel Arias (10) and Daniel Schneemann (one) in camp The three can field multiple positions and would give manager Stephen Vogt mix-and-match options. Freeman (1.080 OPS, eight extra-base hits) has been the best hitter among the three this spring.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Moving around diamond

Freeman started in center field and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's spring game against Texas. Freeman, who launched his second Cactus League homer in the sixth inning, is thriving in a super-utility role. He's appeared in 13 games and has starts at second base (three), shortstop (one), third base (one), center field (four), right field (three) and DH (one). While second base gives him the best chance for a starting gig, Freeman's versatility will keep him in the majors in 2025. He's hitting .313/.421/.656 with six extra-base hits, five RBI, five runs and a stolen base this spring.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Having strong spring

Freeman started in center field and went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's spring game against the Athletics. Freeman is raking in the Cactus League, batting .462 with a home run and three doubles through six contests. He's one of a bunch competing for a utility role and has appeared at second base (twice), shortstop, third base and center field (twice). Freeman could also find a regular gig at second base, which does not have a settled starter at this point in spring training. He's been the best among the group vying for the spot.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Next up at second base

Freeman started at second base and went 1-for-2 with two RBI in Tuesday's Cactus League game against Milwaukee. Freeman was the fourth different player to start at second base for the Guardians. The competition will continue to rage through the Cactus League. Thus far, Gabriel Arias, Juan Brito, Angel Martinez and now Freeman have gotten looks. Daniel Schneemann is expected to get a turn as well. The eventual winner will be keeping the spot warm for Travis Bazzana, last year's No. 1 overall pick who homered and walked twice as the backup to Freeman on Tuesday.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Removed from ALDS roster

The Guardians removed Freeman from their ALDS roster Monday due to a strained left oblique. Freeman suffered the injury during a recent simulated game. He will not be eligible for the ALCS, should the Guardians advance. Freeman could potentially return for the World Series, although it's unclear whether he'll be healthy enough to do so. Angel Martinez will take over Freeman's roster spot.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Brought up for ALDS

Freeman is included on the Guardians' roster for the ALDS versus Detroit. Freeman ended the regular season in the minors after struggling to a .209/.305/.321 slash line throughout the campaign. His inclusion on the ALDS roster gives Cleveland added versatility, as Freeman made at least one start at second base, third base, shortstop and center field this season. Freeman also gives the team speed off the bench -- he stole 11 bags in 17 attempts during the campaign.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Swipes bag off bench

Freeman logged a stolen base as a pinch runner in Friday's 10-8 win over the Guardians. Freeman ran for Josh Naylor, who exited the game with a bruised ankle in the eighth inning. The steal was Freeman's first in a month, though a lack of playing time is partially to blame for that. He's seen action in 19 August contests, going a putrid 2-for-35 (.057) but getting plunked four times. Freeman is at a .206/.304/.320 slash line with 11 steals, seven home runs, 32 RBI, 48 runs scored, 14 doubles and a triple over 112 contests this season. The 25-year-old's slump has relegated him to a short-side platoon role at shortstop, and his playing time could shrink further depending on which players the Guardians call up when rosters expand Sunday.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Heading to bench for early game

Freeman is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Diamondbacks. Freeman had started in center field in both of the Guardians' last two matchups with right-handed pitching, but he'll take a seat for the first game of the day while Arizona sends righty Brandon Pfaadt to the mound. Angel Martinez will get the nod in center field for the early game, but expect the right-handed-hitting Freeman to join the starting nine for the nightcap, when the Guardians face lefty Eduardo Rodriguez.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Records 10th steal

Freeman went 2-for-2 with a double, a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Tigers. Freeman had gone 0-for-11 over his last five contests before getting on base multiple times Tuesday. His playing time has been inconsistent since Angel Martinez took over center field for the Guardians. Freeman is at a .224/.319/.352 slash line with seven home runs, 10 steals, 32 RBI and 45 runs scored over 94 contests this season. He had been seeing some time in center field versus left-handed pitchers, but trade-deadline acquisition Lane Thomas figures to take on that role moving forward.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Retreating to bench Sunday

Freeman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. Though he's on the bench for Sunday's series finale, Freeman appears to have moved back into a quasi-everyday role with Will Brennan (ribs) recently landing on the injured list. Freeman, who has slashed .169/.272/.268 thus far in June, had started in each of the Guardians' last five games.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Sitting again amid slump

Freeman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles. For the second time in three days, Freeman will hit the bench as the Guardians open up room in center field for Daniel Schneemann. Over his last 10 games, Freeman has gone 4-for-31 at the plate, and his June swoon could end up costing him his regular spot in the starting lineup.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Freeman is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Mariners. It looks to be a routine day off for the 25-year-old. Daniel Schneemann will start in center field for the Guardians on Tuesday while Freeman gets some rest.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Getting Thursday off

Freeman is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals. Freeman had been in line to receive Wednesday's game off before that contest was postponed due to inclement weather, but he'll see his streak of 20 consecutive starts come to an official end Thursday. Though he's moved out of the leadoff spot since the Guardians brought back Steven Kwan from the injured list Friday, Freeman has continued to thrive with four hits -- including a game-winning home run Tuesday -- and a stolen base over his last four starts. Utility man Daniel Schneemann will get the nod in center field Thursday in Freeman's stead.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Taking seat Wednesday

Freeman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals. Though he's moved out of the leadoff spot since the Guardians brought back Steven Kwan from the injured list Friday, Freeman has continued to thrive with four hits -- including a game-winning home run Tuesday -- and a stolen base over his last four games. Utility man Daniel Schneemann will get the nod in center field Wednesday in what looks to be little more than a maintenance day for Freeman, who had started in each of Cleveland's last 20 games.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Perfect at plate Saturday

Freeman went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, three runs, three RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 11-4 victory versus Minnesota. Freeman batted out of the leadoff spot for the sixth straight contest and broke out with the first four-hit game of his career. Among those knocks was a run-scoring double and a two-run single. Freeman is still batting just .221 on the season, but he may be rounding into form, as he's gone 8-for-17 with a 4:1 BB:K during his current five-game hitting streak.
