They're now free agents. Meanwhile, utilityman Tyler Wade, who was arb-eligible, agreed to a deal for 2025 with a '26 team option.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell11D agoThe Padres added three Minor League pitchers -- RHPs Henry Baez and Ryan Bergert and LHP Omar Cruz -- to their 40-man roster ahead of today's deadline to protect prospects from becoming Rule 5 Draft eligible. Baez is MLB Pipeline's No. 7 SD prospect, Cruz 22nd and Bergert 25th.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell11D agoPaul Skenes is the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year. Jackson Merrill finished second, receiving 104 voting points to Skenes' 136. The Padres haven't had a Rookie of the Year Award winner since 1987, the longest active drought in baseball. Merrill is the latest of numerous close calls.
