Player Outlook
Andres Chaparro is a familiar story of players who have put up some solid minor league numbers but have failed to bring that production to the big league level. Chaparro hit .328/.405/.572 with 23 homers, 76 runs, and 85 RBIs in 2024 in the minors and .275/.384/.577 in 216 plate appearances for the Nationsl Triple-A club in 2025. Yet, he has shown none of that success with the Nationals in limited playing time. He has the unfortunate profile of being a right-handed hitting first baseman who is slow. He has demonstrated a disciplined approach in the minors but major league pitchers have not been afraid to challenge him in the strike zone to date. Chaparro has a chance to compete for the starting first base role in camp as the roster stands now, but he needs to find a way to carry his minor league success forward.

Chaparro started two of the team's first three games of the year, going 2-for-6 with a double, a walk and a run scored. He will now head to Rochester for the time being, opening a spot for Curtis Mead to join Washington's major-league roster after the team acquired him from the White Sox on Saturday.

Luis Garcia is shifting to first base and Daylen Lile should be the primary right fielder, leaving DH available for Chaparro. The 26-year-old hasn't done much yet in the majors to suggest he's capable of providing consistent offense, however, slashing .203/.268/.358 in 205 plate appearances for the Nats over the last two years with just five homers.
