Hamel was sent outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

Yankees' Dom Hamel: Loses 40-man spot
The Yankees designated Hamel for assignment Wednesday.
Hamel will be exiting a 40-man roster for the fourth time in under five months; he had previously been DFA'd by the Mets and Orioles in September and the Rangers in January. The Yankees will drop Hamel from the roster in order to clear room for outfielder Yanquiel Fernandez, who was claimed off waivers from the Rockies. The 26-year-old Hamel made his MLB debut last season in a Sept. 17 relief appearance with the Mets but otherwise spent the entire campaign at Triple-A Syracuse, where he turned in a 5.32 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 75:22 K:BB in 67.2 innings.

Hamel made one appearance for the Mets in 2025 and spent the rest of the year at Triple-A Syracuse, posting a 5.32 ERA and 75:22 K:BB over 67.2 innings. The 26-year-old will compete for a spot in the Yankees' bullpen but does have minor-league options remaining.

Rangers' Dom Hamel: Removed from 40-man roster
The Rangers designated Hamel for assignment Tuesday.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Jakob Junis, whose signing was officially announced Tuesday. Hamel has not made an appearance for the Rangers since being a waiver claim in September. He held a 5.32 ERA and 75:22 K:BB over 67.2 frames at Triple-A Syracuse in the Mets organization in 2025.

The Mets recalled Hamel from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.
Since his demotion to Triple-A in August, Hamel has posted a 7.53 ERA and 1.60 WHIP across 14.1 innings. Despite his recent performance, he'll rejoin the big club to provide depth out of the bullpen, replacing Huascar Brazoban.

The Mets optioned Hamel to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Mets' Dom Hamel: Receives call to big leagues
The Mets selected Hamel's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.
The right-hander will head to the big leagues for the first time, slotting into the Mets bullpen as a replacement for righty Austin Warren, who was optioned to Syracuse. Over 22 appearances (eight starts) at the Triple-A level this season, Hamel has produced a 4.73 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 59:15 K:BB in 53.1 frames. He'll likely function as a long reliever for the Mets and is unlikely to see much use in higher-leverage spots while he's up with the big club.
