Solometo is sidelined at Double-A Altoona with recurring left shoulder discomfort, Jose Negron of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
Solometo missed much of the 2025 season with shoulder problems, and they're evidently still nagging at him early on in the 2026 season. The lefty will get another opinion from Dr. Keith Meister before a decision is made on how best to proceed. He yielded four runs with a 0:2 K:BB over two innings in his first two appearances for Altoona before getting hurt.

The nature of Solometo's injury is unclear at this time, though he'll miss at least the seven-day minimum while on the mend. He appeared in two games at Double-A Altoona before being placed on the injured list.

Solometo was pulled off his rehab assignment with Single-A Bradenton in late June after he experienced recurrent shoulder discomfort, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
After allowing just one run over 10 innings in his first two starts of the season for Double-A Altoona, Solometo was placed on the 7-day injured list due to shoulder soreness. He was later transferred to the 60-day IL, but he appeared on track to rejoin the Altoona rotation shortly before the All-Star break after he was cleared to join Bradenton for a rehab assignment June 18. However, after being roughed up for three runs (two earned) while retiring just two batters in his lone start with Bradenton, Solometo was pulled off the assignment and now remains without a clear timeline to resume pitching. Once regarded as one of the more promising pitching prospects in the Pittsburgh system, Solometo struggled mightily at the Double-A level in 2024, and his persistent shoulder problems this season have his arrow trending down even further.

He logged a 0.90 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and seven strikeouts in 10 innings across his first two starts, but he hasn't pitched since April 12. Solometo has a deceptive delivery from the left side, which will have to make up for modest overall stuff if he is to make it as a starting pitcher.

Solometo threw scoreless innings on two hits and one walk while striking out three in a Florida Complex League start on Saturday.
Solometo began the season with Double-A Altoona but struggled to a 6.27 ERA across 13 starts. He was placed on the Development List on June 18 and Saturday's outing marked his return to the mound. Solometo will presumably make a few more starts in the lower levels of the minors before returning to Altoona.

Solometo was forced to miss the Spring Breakout game due to a serious case of the flu that made its way through the Pirates' clubhouse. However, he was able to return to throw four scoreless innings while allowing one hit with Double-A Altoona on April 7 -- though he did walk three. Solometo is one of the better prospects in Pittsburgh's minor-league system, and there's a chance he could make it to the big-league roster toward the end of the 2024 campaign.

Solometo was placed on the development list Tuesday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
A second-round pick by the Pirates in 2021, Solometo has impressed during his time in professional ball. He had a sub-3.00 ERA at each of his first three stops and has posted a 3.48 ERA and 36:7 K:BB over 33.2 innings as a 20-year-old at Double-A Altoona. Chances are, this is just a way to manage his workload -- he's already at 92.1 innings for the season after throwing just 47.2 frames last year.
