Top Connor Norby News

  • Marlins' Connor Norby: Two hits in Friday's win

Norby went 2-for-3 with a double in Friday's win over the Rockies.

Getting a surprise start at first base and batting fifth, Norby got his 2026 off to a solid start. With Christopher Morel (oblique) potentially headed to the IL, Norby could be set for regular playing time at first base in the short term. The 25-year-old is looking to establish himself after managing a .251/.300/.389 slash line with eight homers and eight steals in 88 games during an injury-plagued 2025.

  • Marlins' Connor Norby: Might be needed in left field

Norby could see playing time in left field early in the season due to Kyle Stowers (hamstring) being set to begin the season on the IL, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

The 25-year-old Norby looked set to be the Marlins' starter at third base due to a spring injury to Graham Pauley (forearm), but those plans are now in flux. Norby has played left field twice in recent days during Grapefruit League action, and Pauley is expected to be cleared for defensive duty Sunday. Griffin Conine and Heriberto Hernandez are the top options in left field during Stowers' absence, but they're also at the top of the depth chart at DH. If Norby looks comfortable in the outfield, it would offer another path to keeping his bat in the lineup once Pauley's fully healthy. In 16 games this spring, Norby's batting .310 (13-for-42) with two homers and three steals, albeit with a worrisome 1:15 BB:K.

  • Marlins' Connor Norby: Could start season at third base

Norby appears to be the likely Opening Day starter at third base for the Marlins, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old came into camp in a battle with Graham Pauley for the job at the hot corner, but Pauley had his camp derailed by a forearm strain, and he has yet to be cleared to play defense in a Grapefruit League game. With time running short before the regular season begins, Norby is in the driver's seat for the spot. His leash could be very short if he isn't able to solve his contact issues, however. Norby has a career 29.0 percent strikeout rate in the majors since making his debut with the Orioles in 2024, and so far this spring he's got an ugly 0:11 BB:K in 29 plate appearances while batting .276 (8-for-29).

  • Marlins' Connor Norby: Might be headed for utility role

Norby is expected to see some time in the outfield this spring, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old heads into camp competing with Graham Pauley for the starting third base job, but Norby may be behind in that battle before he even reports to Jupiter. Pauley graded out as the superior defender at the hot corner last season, and even if the duo wind up in a platoon, Norby would be on the short end of it as a right-handed hitter. He also had trouble staying healthy in 2025, and shifting to a utility role might help him stay on the field. Norby did finish last season on a high note at the plate, slashing .293/.344/.500 over 58 plate appearances after returning in late August from wrist surgery, although even then he missed time in September due to a quad strain.

Norby has been limited to only 77 games this season due to injuries.

  • Marlins' Connor Norby: Two hits in return

Norby went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Friday's loss to the Mets.

Activated off the IL earlier in the day after recovering from wrist surgery, Norby got the start at third base and batted sixth in his first big-league action since July 11. The 25-year-old will hold down the starting job at the hot corner until Graham Pauley (oblique) gets healthy, at which point the Marlins could have a tough decision to make -- Norby has a .244/.291/.368 slash line in 73 games this season, while Pauley had a .254/.371/.492 line in 26 games after getting called back up from Triple-A Jacksonville when Norby went down.

  • Marlins' Connor Norby: Cleared for rehab games

Norby (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Norby needed surgery in mid-July to address a fractured hamate bone in his left hand, but he's now ready to test out the surgically repaired wrist in a game setting. If all goes well during his rehab assignment, he should rejoin the Marlins' 26-man active roster before the end of August.

  • Marlins' Connor Norby: Taking batting practice

Norboy (wrist) participated in batting practice Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Norby is progressing in his recovery from a procedure in July to repair a broken left hamate bone in his hand. He's not expected to be back until late August at the earliest, but his participation in Wednesday's batting session is a good sign for the 25-year-old third baseman. The next step in his recovery program would be to get some live reps, likely on a rehab assignment.
