Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Hitting shelf to begin season
Atlanta placed Kim (finger) on its 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Kim isn't expected to be ready to make his season debut until at least some point in the first half of May after he required surgery in January to address a torn tendon in his right middle finger. The 30-year-old reported to spring training March 16 to resume taking part in baseball activities, though he has yet to be cleared to resume swinging a bat. Mauricio Dubon is expected to serve as Atlanta's everyday shortstop while Kim is on the shelf.

Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Cleared for fielding work
Kim (finger) arrived at spring training Monday and said that he's been cleared to take part in fielding drills, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
After suffering a torn tendon in his right middle finger in an offseason accident, Kim underwent surgery Jan. 18 to address the injury and is facing an estimated recovery timeline of 4-to-5 months. Because he's mostly been limited to rehab work for the first two months post-surgery, Kim stayed home for the beginning of camp, but he's now far enough along in his recovery to start working out with the team again and increasing his baseball activities. Kim has yet to resume swinging a bat, which will be the major hurdle that he will need to clear before embarking on a rehab assignment. Once he's ready to return from the injured list, Kim is expected to take over as Atlanta's everyday shortstop, but Mauricio Dubon will likely fill those duties for at least the first month and a half of the season.

Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Could be ready by early May
Atlanta president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos said Friday that he's optimistic4r Kim (finger) will be ready to make his season debut in early May, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Kim had surgery in January to repair a torn tendon in his right middle finger. The initial timeline provided had him returning in the second half of May as a best-case scenario, but is sounds like the veteran infielder could beat that projection. Mauricio Dubon is expected to be Atlanta's primary shortstop while Kim recovers.

Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Out 4-5 months after finger surgery
Kim underwent surgery Sunday to repair a torn tendon in his right middle finger and is facing an estimated recovery timeline of 4-to-5 months.
Kim inked a one-year, $20 million contract with Atlanta in December, but he'll now be unavailable for the start of the upcoming campaign after recently sustaining the injury after he slipped on ice while back home in his native South Korea, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com. The 30-year-old was limited to 48 games for Tampa Bay and Atlanta last season due to injuries, and his 2026 is also off to an unfortunate start. Based on the initial timeline, Kim shouldn't be expected to make his season debut until at least mid-May but could be out longer, potentially leaving Mauricio Dubon or Nacho Alvarez to fill in at shortstop for much of the first half.

Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Remaining in Atlanta
Kim signed a one-year, $20 million contract with Atlanta on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Kim finished out the 2025 campaign with Atlanta after being claimed off waivers, and he did enough to earn himself another look with the club in 2026. He slashed .253/.316/.368 with three home runs, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored in 24 games down the stretch of the 2025 season after being dumped by the Rays. Kim figures to see the bulk of his playing time at shortstop heading into the upcoming season, though he can also manage at the keystone if necessary. Mauricio Dubon is expected to be deployed as a true utility man following the addition of Kim.

Ha-Seong Kim: Becomes free agent after opting out
Kim became a free agent Monday after exercising the opt-out clause in his contract, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
After Kim slashed just .234/.304/.345 in 48 games for Tampa Bay and Atlanta in 2025, it was not a given that he would opt out of the $16 million he was owed in 2026. However, the 30-year-old ultimately has decided to test out the free-agent market. Atlanta has a hole at shortstop, so it will likely make an effort to re-sign Kim, but he'll now be free to negotiate with all teams.

Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Extends hit streak with fifth homer
Kim went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Tigers.
The shortstop took Casey Mize deep in the fourth inning for a solo shot, extending his hit streak to nine games in the process. During that stretch, Kim is batting .394 (13-for-33) with two of his five homers on the season, along with eight RBI and 10 runs. It's been a tough, injury-plagued campaign for Kim, but a strong finish to 2025 could make it more likely he declines his $16 million player option for 2026 and hits the open market this winter in search of a long-term contract.

Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Swats fourth homer
Kim went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's win over the Tigers.
The infielder took Chris Paddack deep in the eighth inning as part of a 10-1 rout. Kim has hit safely in seven straight games, batting .423 (11-for-26) over that stretch, and in 16 games since joining Atlanta he's slashing .316/.375/.439 with two of his four homers on the season, and 10 of his 15 RBI.

Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Taking seat for nightcap
Kim is out of the lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals.
Kim started at shortstop in the matinee and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. The 29-year-old will head to the bench for the nightcap, allowing Nick Allen to pick up a start at shortstop.
