  Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins said Thursday that Bieber (elbow) will throw off a mound this week, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. The right-hander has been limited to throwing on flat ground while working his way back from shoulder fatigue, so a return to mound work is a significant development in his rehab program. Bieber still has a lengthy road ahead of him while building up to face live batters and eventually embarking on a rehab assignment, but a return in early May still appears to be on the table.

Bieber has dealt with what had been referred to as forearm fatigue dating back to last season, but the Blue Jays have listed right elbow inflammation as his injury designation. The veteran hurler has been throwing on flat ground, but it's unclear when he'll be ready for mound work and a rehab assignment. A clearer picture of Bieber's status should be available in the coming weeks.

Bieber has yet to progress to mound work this spring, and he'll need to wait before being cleared to ramp up his throwing program. The Blue Jays have been cautious with Bieber's return to the mound after he dealt with forearm fatigue last season in his return from April 2024 Tommy John surgery. Bieber has already been ruled out for Opening Day, and he'll likely need at least six weeks to build up once he's ready to start building up.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Friday that "all reports are good" on Bieber, who is "champing at the bit." It's clear, however, that Toronto will continue to proceed cautiously with the right-hander as he works his way back from last year's forearm fatigue. Bieber has already been ruled out for Opening Day, and given where he's at in his throwing program, a minimum stay on the injured list seems unlikely.

After falling just one game short of capturing his first World Series title, Bieber will opt into another year with the Blue Jays and receive a $6 million raise in the process. The 30-year-old right-hander missed the first several months of the 2025 season while working his way back from Tommy John surgery but returned in time to make seven regular-season starts and post a 3.57 ERA across 40.1 innings. It remains to be seen how his surgically repaired elbow will hold up over the course of a full season, but the 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner is still deserving of fantasy attention heading into 2026.

• Blue Jays' Shane Bieber: Hangs tough in ALCS Game 7

  Bieber allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five over 3.2 innings during Monday's 4-3 win in Game 7 over the Mariners. He didn't factor into the decision. Bieber was hit hard early in Monday's outing, as Seattle got to him for a run in the top of the first inning, and Julio Rodriguez would deliver a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the third. While seven hits in fewer than four frames doesn't often result in success, Bieber managed to navigate around traffic on the bases to keep his club in the game, later exiting with a one-run deficit. Overall, the veteran right-hander delivered a solid ALCS, surrendering four runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out 13 across 9.2 innings (two starts). He'll certainly be leaned on in the World Series against the Dodgers and will likely be tapped to start either Game 2 or Game 3.

  Bieber picked up the win in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Mariners on Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out eight batters over six innings. The right-hander's day got off to a shaky start, as he allowed a leadoff walk to Randy Arozarena before serving up a two-run homer to Julio Rodriguez to give Seattle a 2-0 lead with one out in the first inning. Bieber did a tremendous job settling in afterward, collecting the next 17 outs while surrendering just three additional hits, while a 13-run outburst from Toronto's offense gave the 30-year-old far more support than he needed to leave the ballpark with a win. Bieber is lined up to possibly retake the mound in Game 7, if the series makes it that far.

Manager John Schneider turned to his bullpen in the third inning and the relief crew was unable to hold the lead, affording the Yankees new life in the series. Bieber made only seven starts during the regular season, but that was after an arduous rehab from Tommy John surgery, so it's understandable that he's running on fumes a bit here at the end.

Bieber coughed up a solo homer to Coby Mayo in the second inning but otherwise did not face much trouble. It was Bieber's first quality start since his season debut Aug. 22. He had given up eight runs over 11.2 frames (6.17 ERA) over his last two starts before Sunday's win. Bieber forced a season-high 18 whiffs on 97 total pitches. He now owns a 3.72 ERA with a 30:4 K:BB through 29 innings. Bieber's next start is projected to be in Kansas City next weekend.

  Bieber came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Astros, giving up three runs on nine hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out four. The veteran right-hander served up a two-run shot to Carlos Correa in the first inning and dealt with traffic on the basepaths in every inning he worked, but Bieber kept Toronto in the game until finally exiting after 94 pitches (53 strikes) with two on and two out in the sixth after allowing an RBI double to Yainer Diaz. Since his dazzling Blue Jays debut Aug. 22 in Miami, Bieber has had a little trouble with his command within the strike zone, posting a 16:3 K:BB over three starts and 17 innings but also a 5.29 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. He'll look to tighten things up in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Orioles.

Prior to Wednesday, Bieber had allowed just three runs over his first two starts (11.1 innings) following his return from Tommy John surgery.   Bieber (1-1) took the loss against the Brewers on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six across 5.1 innings. He did not issue a walk. Bieber dazzled in his Blue Jay debut against the Marlins, and it was much of the same in Friday's contest against the best team in baseball. He set the tone by striking out the side in the first inning to set up a fierce pitching duel with Freddy Peralta. Bieber kept the Brewers off the board through the first five frames before yielding two runs in the sixth, including a solo homer to Andruw Monasterio. Even with the loss, Bieber has looked good in his first two starts since returning from Tommy John surgery, and his acquisition from the Guardians at the trade deadline has solidified the top of the Blue Jays' rotation that includes Kevin Gausman and Max Scherzer. Bieber is lined up to face the AL East rival Yankees in the Bronx next weekend.
