  • Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Getting rare start

Taylor will start in left field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Taylor will enter the lineup for just the seventh time since he was activated from the 10-day injured list Aug. 22. The 34-year-old will likely continue to see limited opportunities over the final week and a half of the season while the Dodgers' playoff positioning is not yet locked in.

  • Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Activated from IL

The Dodgers reinstated Taylor (groin) from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

A left groin strain kept Taylor on the IL since late July, but he's now been cleared to return to the active roster after playing in five minor-league rehab games. The 33-year-old owns just a .542 OPS across 189 plate appearances this season and will likely take on a utility role now that he's healthy. Jason Heyward was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Nearing return to majors

Taylor (groin) is nearing a return to the major-league roster, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Taylor started a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, going 4-for-11 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored over three games to this point. The 33-year-old is working his way back from a left groin strain that landed him on the 10-day injured list July 25, but he could be active "within the week" according to manager Dave Roberts.

  • Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Begins rehab stint

Taylor (groin) kicked off a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, going 1-for-4 with an RBI double.

Taylor went on the injured list July 25 due to a left groin strain, and he's well past the minimum IL stay. It's not clear how long the utility man's rehab assignment will last, and he may not receive consistent playing time upon his return to the Dodgers. Since Taylor landed on the IL, Mookie Betts has returned from a hand injury, Gavin Lux has nailed down an everyday role at second base and Kevin Kiermaier has joined the team via trade. Both Tommy Edman (wrist/ankle) and Max Muncy (oblique) are also currently in the midst of rehab stints and could be activated ahead of Taylor.

  • Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Facing live pitching again

Taylor (groin) took batting practice Saturday and is expected to report to the Dodgers' spring training facility in Arizona this week to get in more live at-bats before heading out on a rehab assignment, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Of the four Dodgers hitters currently on the injured list, Taylor looks to be the furthest away from returning. Mookie Betts (hand) is on track to be activated Monday, and Max Muncy (oblique) and Tommy Edman (wrist) are in the midst of rehab assignments and could be activated as soon as Aug. 19. Taylor shouldn't be too far behind Muncy and Edman if he begins a rehab assignment by next weekend, but playing time could be hard to come by for the 33-year-old utility man once he eventually makes his way back to the big club. Taylor had started at second base, third base or in left field in nine of the Dodgers' last 11 games before he landed on the injured list July 25 with a left groin strain, but Gavin Lux, Muncy and Teoscar Hernandez should all be locked in as starters at those respective positions by the time Taylor is activated.
