Yankees' Derek Dietrich: Receives 50-game ban
Major League Baseball announced a 50-game suspension for Dietrich on Friday after he tested positive for DMPA, a banned stimulant, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
The 33-year-old signed with the Yankees on a minor-league deal in April and has a .244/.308/.402 slash line at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre. The Railriders will finish up their season in late September, so Dietrich is poised to miss the rest of the campaign.

Yankees' Derek Dietrich: Back with Yankees
Dietrich agreed to a minor-league contract with the Yankees earlier this month, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.
The Yankees have yet to officially announce Dietrich's signing or assign him to an affiliate, but he'll presumably be ticketed for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once he finishes a ramp-up program at extended spring training in Tampa. The 32-year-old second baseman previously spent time in the Yankees organization last spring, but he didn't see any action at the big-league level before he was granted his release last March. He later caught on with the Nationals but was unable to earn a promotion to the big club before being cut loose in September.

Nationals' Derek Dietrich: Latches on with Nationals
Dietrich agreed to a contract with the Nationals on Friday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
The 31-year-old opted out of his minor-league deal with the Yankees last weekend and didn't take long to join a new organization. Dietrich's deal with the Nationals is also believed to be a minor-league pact. He hit .215/.413/.393 with five homers and a 32.2 percent strikeout rate in 143 place appearances at Triple-A before parting ways with New York.

Derek Dietrich: Opts out of contract
Dietrich opted out of his contract with the Yankees' minor-league system Saturday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
The 31-year-old, who hit just .215 with five homers and 22 RBI in 107 Triple-A at-bats this season, will become a free agent. Dietrich is a few years removed from his most recent season of competence at the big-league level, so it remains to be seen whether he'll draw interest from any other organization.

Yankees' Derek Dietrich: Back with Yankees in minors camp
Dietrich agreed to return to the Yankees on Monday and will head to the team's alternate training site, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Dietrich was let go by the Yankees on Saturday once it became clear he wasn't going to win a roster spot, but he'll wind up back with the organization as a minor leaguer. He could fill a depth role at the corner positions and at second base but won't necessarily be the first player called upon in the event of an injury, as he isn't on the 40-man roster.

Derek Dietrich: Let go by New York
Dietrich was released by the Yankees on Saturday.
Dietrich was scratched from Friday's spring lineup against the Orioles, and he'll now be let go by the Yankees ahead of the regular season. Dietrich hit .167 with one home run and four RBI in 11 spring games this year and may have to settle for a minor-league role in 2021.

Yankees' Derek Dietrich: Scratched from lineup
Dietrich was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles for undisclosed reasons.
Dietrich is merely in camp as a non-roster invitee, so it's possible he's been told he won't be making the team, though that's yet to be confirmed by the Yankees. Chris Gittens will fill his place at first base.

Yankees' Derek Dietrich: Swinging cold stick
Dietrich is slashing .111/.304/.278 with a home run and three RBI in eight games this spring.
Dietrich is with New York as a non-roster invitee and is among a handful of players vying for one of the team's final roster spots. He hasn't been able to get going at the plate thus far, though Bryan Hoch of MLB.com notes that Dietrich's offensive struggles don't necessarily disqualify him from making the team in the eyes of manager Aaron Boone. "It's more about what are they looking like, whether there's a result or not," Boone said. "In Deet's case, he very much looks like the hitter he's been throughout most of his career. I feel like physically he's been in a really good spot. We've gotten him in a lot of positions. I would say it's more about physically where [he is] and track record."

Yankees' Derek Dietrich: Attending camp with Yankees
The Yankees announced Wednesday that Dietrich signed a minor-league contract with the organization that includes an invitation to big-league spring training.
Dietrich, 31, will vie for a bench role with the Yankees after spending the 2020 campaign with Texas. Though Dietrich was able to provide some pop (five home runs) over his 75 plate appearances with the Rangers, a bloated 28 percent strikeout rate limited him to a .197 average.

Rangers' Derek Dietrich: Moves to first base
Dietrich started at first base and went 0-for-4 in Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Rockies.
Dietrich made an impression after being called up from the alternate camp last week: he filled in at second base for Rougned Odor and reached base four times in his debut, then homered as the designated hitter Saturday. With Danny Santana activated off the injured list Sunday, Dietrich's opportunities will be squeezed.

Dietrich went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Rockies.
Dietrich provided the biggest hit of the night when he went yard in the eighth inning to extend the score to 6-2. Those would be valuable runs, as the Rockies managed to score once in both the eighth and ninth innings, but they couldn't catch up. Dietrich has four hits, four runs scored and a stolen base in nine plate appearances with the Rangers. He's also been hit by a pitch twice in three games.

Rangers' Derek Dietrich: Will start over weekend
Dietrich is expected to start games Saturday and Sunday, Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Dietrich, who was called up to the roster earlier this week, made a huge splash in his first appearance. He started in place of Rougned Odor at second base Wednesday, and he reached base four times, stole a base and scored two runs. That fueled speculation that he could continue to see action at second base, but Dietrich was back on the bench Friday. He could play first, second or third base this weekend.

Rangers' Derek Dietrich: Joins Rangers on minors deal
Dietrich signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Monday.
Dietrich's lopsided .187/.328/.462 slash line last season was good for a respectable 102 wRC+, but he had a tough time cracking a roster this year, as he's already been released by the Reds and Cubs within the past month. He could perhaps have better luck with the Rangers, though he'll have to prove himself at the team's alternate training site first before earning his next big-league opportunity.
