  • Brewers' Tuffy Gosewisch: Gets invite to Brewers' camp

Gosewich signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Thursday as a non-roster invitee. Gosewich spent last season with Triple-A San Antonio after he failed to secure a spot on the Brewers' major-league roster. He'll get the chance to compete in major-league spring training again in 2020 after slashing .205/.299/.308 with three home runs and nine RBI over 49 games at the Triple-A level last year.

  • Brewers' Tuffy Gosewisch: Heading to Triple-A

Gosewisch was informed Friday that he'll open the season at Triple-A San Antonio, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The news is no surprise, as Gosewisch is behind even third catcher Erik Kratz, who may not be able to make the team. Even if Kratz heads elsewhere, Gosewisch isn't guaranteed to be the next man up, as he doesn't have a 40-man roster spot.

  • Brewers' Tuffy Gosewisch: Agrees to deal with Brewers

Gosewisch inked a minor-league contract with Milwaukee that includes an invite to spring training. Gosewisch has played in 137 major-league games over the course of his career, though only 11 of those have come since the start of the 2017 season. He spent the entirety of this past year at Triple-A Syracuse in the Nationals' system, slashing just .219/.310/.335 with three home runs and 25 RBI. The 35-year-old doesn't have a path to big-league playing time with Manny Pina, Erik Kratz and Jacob Nattingham ahead of him on the Brewers' depth chart.

  • Nationals' Tuffy Gosewisch: Signed by Washington

Gosewisch agreed to a minor-league deal with the Nationals on Saturday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. Gosewisch was released by Seattle just over a week ago after failing to make the club's Opening Day roster out of spring training. The 34-year-old will likely report to Triple-A Syracuse and provide some extra organizational depth for Washington this season. During 11 appearances with the Mariners in 2017, he went 2-for-28 with 14 strikeouts.

  • Tuffy Gosewisch: Released by Seattle

Gosewisch was released by the Mariners on Thursday. Gosewisch failed to make the Opening Day roster with Seattle after joining the club in spring training as a non-roster invitee. The 34-year-old catcher will look to latch on with another organization, though he's likely headed for a reserve role on a Triple-A roster.

  • Mariners' Tuffy Gosewisch: Fails to make Opening Day roster

The Mariners reassigned Gosewisch to their minor-league camp Sunday, TJ Cotterill of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. With Gosewisch likely ticketed for Triple-A Tacoma to begin the season, Mike Marjama is slated to open the season as the Mariners' backup catcher behind primary option Mike Zunino. Gosewisch made 11 appearances for the big club in 2017, recording just two hits in 28 at-bats.

  • Mariners' Tuffy Gosewisch: Minors deal with Seattle

Gosewisch agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training. The 34-year-old has seen his appearances at the major-league level decline each year since 2014, playing in just 11 games for Seattle this past season. During those contests, he went 2-for-28 with 14 strikeouts, and remains a likely candidate to start the 2018 season with Triple-A Tacoma.

  • Mariners' Tuffy Gosewisch: Outrighted to Triple-A

Gosewisch cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. Gosewisch slashed .071/.102/.071 through 11 games with the Mariners this season, and he owns a career .190 batting average across parts of four seasons, so the Mariners were able to pass him through waivers untouched. He'll continue to serve as organizational catching depth at Tacoma.

  • Mariners' Tuffy Gosewisch: Given DFA Sunday

The Mariners designated Gosewisch for assignment Sunday. After acquiring reliever Ryan Garton from the Rays in a trade Sunday, the Mariners didn't have room on the roster for Gosewisch, a 33-year-old catcher who didn't project as a regular option at the position. Gosewisch, a career .190 hitter over parts of four seasons in the big leagues with the Diamondbacks and Mariners, will look to latch on with another organization to serve as catching depth in the upper minors.

  • Mariners' Tuffy Gosewisch: Sent back to minors

Gosewisch was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. Gosewisch was just 2-for-28 (.071) across 11 games with the big club before being sent back to Tacoma. The veteran backstop was replaced by fellow catcher Mike Zunino on the roster. He'll continue to serve as organizational catching depth for the Mariners.

  • Mariners' Tuffy Gosewisch: Wears golden sombrero

Gosewisch went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in Monday's 6-5 win over the A's. After being called up May 5, Gosewisch has just one hit and 10 strikeouts in 19 at-bats for a .053 average. He will continue serving as the backup to Carlos Ruiz, at least until the M's feel Mike Zunino is ready for another go-around at major league pitching.

  • Mariners' Tuffy Gosewisch: Recalled from Triple-A

Gosewisch was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. Gosewisch hasn't been particularly great for Tacoma, where he owns a .240/.339/.320 batting line over 17 games, but Mike Zunino's struggles were getting to be too much for Mariners brass to handle. The former Diamondbacks catcher will hold down the backup spot until Zunino proves he's ready to handle the show once again. Expect Carlos Ruiz to get most of the starts at catcher over Gosewisch.

  • Mariners' Tuffy Gosewisch: Sent back to minors

Gosewisch was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. The 33-year-old was unlikely to beat out Mike Zunino or Carlos Ruiz for a roster spot from the get-go, but his .473 OPS during Cactus League play ultimately sealed his fate. Gosewisch will likely spend 2017 as an organizational depth piece.

  • Mariners' Tuffy Gosewisch: Claimed by Seattle

Gosewisch was claimed off waiver by the Mariners on Thursday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. The 33-year-old has struggled across the parts of four major league seasons, accumulating a .199/.237/.286 line in 392 at-bats. He will merely serve as an organizational depth piece if he cracks the big league roster.

  • Braves' Tuffy Gosewisch: Avoids arbitration

Gosewisch and the Braves agreed to a one-year deal on Wednesday and avoided arbitration. He was claimed off waivers by the Braves last week, so they were obviously committed to coming to terms with him for the 2017 season. Look for him to jockey with Anthony Recker in spring training for the backup catching duties behind Tyler Flowers.

  • Diamondbacks' Tuffy Gosewisch: Enjoys big day in Big Apple

Gosewisch went 2-for-5 with a triple and a home run, his second of the year, in Thursday's win over the Mets. The backup catcher hit his first career triple off Noah Syndergaard in the fifth inning, and followed that up with his third career homer to lead off the sixth against Jonathon Niese. Gosewisch is slashing .182/.213/.364 through 44 at-bats, but his days are limited as Chris Herrmann (hamstring) is progressing nicely through his rehab program.

  • Diamondbacks' Tuffy Gosewisch: Hits third career homer in loss to Jays

Gosewisch went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Wednesday's loss to Toronto. The 32-year-old catcher hit just the third home run of his career Wednesday, and first this season. Gosewisch has played in five games since being called up July 1, but notched an RBI or extra-base hit through his first 15 at-bats until his meaningless homer in the ninth inning of Wednesday's 10-4 loss. With backup catcher Chris Herrmann (hamstring) hitting the 15-day DL, Gosewisch will stick around with the big league club for now, but he holds minimal fantasy value outside of being a value play when he earns a spot start.

  • Diamondbacks' Tuffy Gosewisch: Optioned to Triple-A on Thursday

Gosewisch was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday. Gewis had a putrid spring at the plate, batting below the Mendoza line, so the Diamondbacks will go with Chris Herrmann as their backup catcher to start the season. That being said, Gosewisch could find his way back to Arizona if he hits better in the minors.

  • Diamondbacks' Tuffy Gosewisch: Ready for spring training

Gosewisch is "100 percent ready to go" for spring training after dealing with an ACL tear through most of the entire 2015 season, MLB.com reports. Gosewisch appeared in just 38 games in 2015 due to the injury, but he hit just .211/.261/.281 before he went down. He'll compete for the backup catcher job, but it'll be a battle, as he'll have to beat out Chris Herrmann and Oscar Hernandez to make the team.

  • Diamondbacks C Tuffy Gosewisch has knee surgery on Friday

Diamondbacks catcher Tuffy Gosewisch underwent surgery on his right knee on Friday. Gosewisch was diagnosed with a torn ACL earlier in the week, and it seems likely that his season is over. "He feels great," D-backs manager Chip Hale said, per MLB.com. "What they told us was there were no issues in the knee other than that, so that's good." Gosewisch was with the team on Saturday, but will not travel with the team on their up-coming road trip to Los Angeles and San Francisco.
