Yankees' Jay Bruce: Retiring after Sunday's game
Bruce plans to retire from baseball following the Yankees' game Sunday against the Rays, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.
The 34-year-old is out of the lineup for a third straight game Sunday after starting the season 4-for-34 with 13 strikeouts, and he's now decided to hang up his cleats after 14 seasons. Bruce has a .244/.314/.467 slash line with 319 home runs and 951 RBI in 1650 career games between the Reds, Mets, Phillies, Mariners, Yankees and Cleveland. The veteran slugger will be available off the bench one final time Sunday.

Yankees' Jay Bruce: Remains on bench Saturday
Bruce isn't starting Saturday's game against the Rays.
Bruce will be out of the lineup for a second straight game after he went 1-for-19 with nine strikeouts in his last five games. DJ LeMahieu will start at first base while Rougned Odor enters the starting nine as the second baseman. Manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that LeMahieu should continue to see increased playing time at first base going forward while Odor starts at the keystone, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Bruce appeared in 13 Grapefruit League games as a non-roster invitee this spring and hit .194 with two home runs and three RBI. Bruce's contract was officially selected by the Yankees on Saturday, and he'll serve as the starting first baseman to begin the regular season with Luke Voit (knee) sidelined, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

The veteran slugger took Spencer Turnbull deep in the second inning to stake New York to an early lead. The blast was Bruce's second of spring training, and he is slashing .455/.455/1.091 overall through 11 plate appearances. The 33-year-old is in camp as a non-roster invitee, but he is making enough noise at the plate to keep his name in serious consideration for a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Bruce signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Saturday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Bruce appeared in 32 games for Philadelphia last year but had a career-worst .198 batting average with six home runs and 14 RBI during that time. The 33-year-old should now compete for a major-league roster spot with the Yankees during spring training, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him appear in the big leagues at some point in 2021.
