Red Sox right fielder Shane Victorino will undergo surgery on his lower back Tuesday in Los Angeles, the club announced. The announcement didn't include a timetable for Victorino's recovery, but it's a pretty safe bet his 2014 season is over.

Hamstring and back issues plagued Victorino throughout the year, as he had only 133 plate appearances in 30 games. He hit .268/.303/.382 (91 OPS+) with six doubles, two homers, 12 RBI and two steals in a follow up to a great 2013 season.

Victorino, 33, will make $13 million from the Red Sox in 2015, the final year of his contract.

With Victorino out, the corner outfielders for Boston will be some combination of Daniel Nava, Brock Holt and the recently-acquired Yoenis Cespedes and Allen Craig.
