Hey, remember when Rhys Hoskins of the Phillies became the fastest player in league history to reach 10 home runs? Yeah, he did that Saturday night, homering for the 10th time in 17 career games. On Sunday, he went deep again. That's 11 home runs in 18 career games. Outrageous.
Here's the Sunday shot:
The laughter says it all, no? It's a stupid-good streak for Hoskins to begin his career.
He deservedly received a curtain call from the fans at Citizens Bank Park.
Hoskins has homered in eight of his last nine games. The only game in which he didn't hit a home run came in the nightcap of a doubleheader, so he's actually hit a home run in eight straight days that the Phillies have played a game.
Hoskins has also hit a home run in five straight games now. Only 29 times in the history of baseball has a player had a longer streak of games with a home run. The record is eight straight games, held by Ken Griffey Jr. (1993), Don Mattingly (1987) and Dale Long (1956). Earlier this year, Giancarlo Stanton homered in six straight games.
In just 18 games, Hoskins is hitting .297/.408/.828 with 11 homers and 24 RBI. The 24-year-old was a fifth-round pick in the 2014 MLB draft.
