The Phillies on Tuesday told reporters that infield prospect Bryson Stott will make the Opening Day roster for the 2022 regular season, which gets underway on Thursday. The move will require the Phillies to clear a space on the 40-man roster for Stott.

Stott, 24 years of age and a UNLV product, should immediately enter the infield mix for the Phillies. Coming into the season, our own R.J. Anderson ranked Stott as the Phillies' No. 2 prospect. Here's his write-up

The Phillies took Stott with the 14th pick in the 2019 draft. He should be able to make his big-league debut next season after hitting .299/.390/.486 with 16 home runs and 10 stolen bases in 112 games across three levels, including Triple-A. Stott has a well-rounded game, albeit without a true carrying tool, or an aspect that stands out. The rest of the Phillies' offseason could dictate where he lands on the infield.

Anderson also ranked Stott as the No. 48 overall prospect in all of baseball for 2022. During spring training, Stott has batted .429/.529/.607 with one home run in 12 games. The Phillies already have Didi Gregorius in the fold, but Stott figures to be the primary at shortstop, at least for the start of the season. It's also possible Stott platoons with fellow prospect Alec Bohm at third base, or splits time with Jean Segura at second base.
