Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp has not yet gotten comfortable at the plate during his rehab assignment, reports Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. Manager Don Mattingly confirmed Kemp may be asked to extend his rehab beyond Sunday.
"Baseball-wise, he isn't comfortable yet," Mattingly said. "I don't think we're worried about center field. His timing doesn't sound very good yet ... It's hard to jump in there at 94-95 [mph] when you haven't seen it regularly."
Kemp, 28, went 0-for-8 while hitting just one ball out of the infield during two rehab games with the team's High Class-A affiliate. He was originally slated to serve as the DH both Saturday and Sunday before rejoining the team on Monday.
Kemp has not reported any discomfort in his sprained left ankle. He's been on the DL since July 21. The ankle, as well as shoulder and hamstring problems, have limited Kemp to just 62 games with the Dodgers this year. He's hit .263/.319/.382 (97 OPS+) with five home runs when actually on the field.
