Indians starter Daisuke Matsuzaka left Monday's Cactus League appearance against the Angels after one inning of work due to cramping in his right calf. He gave up just one hit while pitching a scoreless sixth but was removed after talking with trainers in the seventh. Matsuzaka, who is competing for a spot in the rotation, has allowed two runs over eight innings pitched so far this spring. "He was cramping in his calf," manager Terry Francona told MLB.com. "It's just hard to let a guy pitch like that, if he hurts himself. He came in after his first inning and he was trying to loosen it up. We told him when he went out, if it was bothering him, to let us know. You could tell when he was warming up he just couldn't get it to loosen up."
