Pirates pitcher Brandon Cumpton struck out five of the first six batters he faced in his major-league debut Saturday afternoon against the Dodgers but faded late.

Cumpton allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five in five innings of a no-decision.

He could be a strong candidate to make his second start Thursday against the Reds. The Pirates have not announced their rotation plans for Cumpton.
