Sam Saunders spoke profoundly at the memorial service for his grandfather, Arnold Palmer, on Tuesday. He nearly broke down (I don't know how he didn't, and I don't know how I didn't) when recalling his last conversation with his grandfather, who told him to "take care of his babies."
While Saunders was touching, he was also funny.
"This one particular time, he said, 'Where are you?' I said, 'I'm at home.' He said, 'I'm with the president.' I said, 'The president of what?' He said to me, as if it was so obvious, 'The United States. I'm with the President in the Oval Office.' I said, 'Why did you answer your phone?' He said, 'Because I wanted to talk to you.'"
That's just a little dust in here. Yeah, yeah, just a little dust.
'We are all here because we love Arnold Palmer. Because we love my grandfather."
