The Iowa state bird population is one less than it should be because Rob Lowe once ended the life of one of those poor things with a sand wedge.

"Hi, I'm 'doesn't-play-golf-anymore-because-I-once-killed-a-feathered-creature-with-a-golf-shot' Rob Lowe.
Oh wait, that actually happened to real-life Rob Lowe.
He talked about it Monday night on Conan.
"I gave golf up because I killed the Iowa state bird in-flight at a golf tournament. I hit what I thought was a nice sand wedge -- 'boink' in the air, dead," he recalled.
Apparently, the tournament organizers said the chances of this happening were about 1-in-747 million, and he was so distraught he just decided to not play anymore.
Here's a look at the clip.
